The first episode seemed to focus on plot setup for the season, so that was acceptable. The second episode was outstanding (how can you doubt a show that creates a cinematic moment by having Adriana hurl across a boardroom?).
And the third episode, well, I have to agree with you. It went nowhere. And furthermore, it was way too didactic.

STT757 -- it's not you, the episode did suck. Soprano's is still a good show, but I've been really disappointed this season considering how long we've been waiting. It's a disturbing patern, because Sex in The City really sucked this seanson too. Since Soprano's is almost gone, I hope HBO is planning some new series.. Mind of the Married Man is dumb. Six Feet Under and Larry David are the only two anchors left.

Its been slow, but I still think its great. They're also setting it up for future episodes. Obviously something is going to come out of the Adriana Dasilva FBI sting op and I thought that the Columbus day-Native American conflict was a hilarious way of showing the conflict between how Tony sees the world and how his goons do. As Boss, Tony has to keep the emotions of his Capos in order and clearly he is walking a fine line in doing so. And the scene with Janice hurling Ralphie down the stairs was just too much !!! Whats great about the Sopranos is that even when someone isn't being offed at the Bada Bing, there is enough emotional turmoil going on to keep you interested in the characters.

The season opener was good, but episode II was fantastic!
This past show, week three, labored over "issue priented" nonsense, addressing the pros and cons of Christopher Columbus, and, in a more subtle way, the controversy surrounding this monster hit tv show's portrayal of "Italians".
It felt kinda like McDonalds getting into health food....puh-leze. We love you for all the bad things you are, so dont change!
By the way, updated odds on who gets "whacked" this season:
1. Pauly Walnuts 1 in 3
2. Ralphie 1 in 5 (we have new information!)
3. Adrianna 1 in 2
4. Johnny Sack 1 in 2
5. Christopher Moltasanti 1 in 5
6. Silvio 1 in 4
7. Furio 1 in 2
8. Tony (nil, though it kinda looks like theyre gonna try huh?!)
9. Bobby (nil...that'd be an infamia)
10. Junior 1 in 4
11. Janice 1 in 3 (if she doesn't kill someone with that vibrator first!)

Why so critical? You have to trust David Chase, he knows what he's doing. I've been watching since episode 1 of the first season, and I can tell you that when an episode is "slow" or less interesting, pay special attention. They are basically setting up the plotline.
As for season 3, episode one was in my opinion, foreshadowing for the upcoming season. Episode two was awesome, I was not expecting the undercover FBI agent to be exposed so early in the season. Sundays episode was entertaining but not all that spectacular. But, it's interesting to see that with Paulie talkin' to Johnnie Sack while in prison, Ralphie is looking like the bad guy and the one who's talking. Interesting stuff people, you must pay attention.
As for me, there are two things I really want to see happen this season:
1. Dr. Melfi's rape has got to come out.
2. What happened to the Russion mob guy in Pine Barrens? He obviously took off in Paulie's car - when will he come back to take vengeance for getting his ear blown off?
Stick with it people, you will not be disappointed!

Yes, it's you . I think the new season is great- We're really seeing the characters evolve. You can't rate seasons, let alone individual episodes at "face value"...nor can you compare them to one another. In a long running series like this, everything builds upon the previous. It might not look like it now ( and it didn't seem like it then ) but the whole storyline flows pretty good from episode 1, season 1. Lookin' forward to what's coming up- cause it looks like a mega poweder keg about to explode.

Lol heavymetal, I think the episodes are great. I just saw episode three. This will be the first complete season I get to watch on tv because it is finally being shown in Canada. CTV tried to show it for the second season but a bunch of whiny mothers who's kids are probably 0-2 thought it was to vile for cable. Cry me a river.
