Stay with Win2k and email tech support to work this out.
Win98 wasn't designed for games. It wasn't really designed for anything. It is DOS that was kludgingly and painfully brought into the modern world.
In a way, you could support your argument (win nt=business) before DirectX came out for NT, but afterwards, unless you are playing an old old game that was written especially for DOS, you should have no troubles running win 2k/xp
Excuse me, but what does God need with a starship?

First of all, you need to upgrade to CS1.5, 1.3 is the old version. Second, there is a bug everyone gets when creating LAN games, where what you described happens, but usually Esc then "Resume" fixes it.
Otherwise, uninstall and reinstall everything That always fixes my bugs.

Clovis, i do find 1.5 to be kind of a nuisance, especially the movement. when you jump, you stop, unlike in 1.3. And also the aiming is slightly off, it is just irritating. I'll stick to 1.3 for home games and 1.5 for the cyber cafes
About the problem, I experienced it in Win98 before, esc and resume does solve it. However on my new OS it restarts, so that is out of the question.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled already, CS, the mods, Half-Life. Still same problem so, i guess that is out too.
I have tried starting CS through its mods, through OGC (cheat) same thing... The mods are the same too. I haven't tried alt+tab yet, the sound will go, but i guess I'll have to live with that (if it works, scared to try, seen my pc restart about 100-200 times today, and my is it SLOW)
So anymore help guys?
Help me A.Net members, you're my only hope.

It was not until WinXP that they merged the two OS lines together, and apparently successfully so in the workstation market although I still struggle to get games running on this, something I do not have trouble with in Win98SE.
Win98 is neither a DOS application or not designed for games. Indeed, 98SE is probably the best OS that Microsoft has released. This misinformation that people spread about Microsoft operating systems is quite amusing, but doesn't help others resolve their issues.
The vendor did you no favours in convincing you to go Win2K. Chances are he/she did that ONLY because it was the cheaper option so they could make more money. Depending on the age of the machine i'd be inclinded to take it back, along with the game and the modem (if they sold you that as well) and make them fix it. After all, they recommended the OS, and probably installed it as well?
People who work in shops generally have very little understanding of the operating systems and how to install them correctly, they usually just follow the bouncing ball and give it to you.
Now you have it you may need to get out on the net, upgrade Win2K to the latest service pack and hotfix (critical if you are on the net as Win2K is quite insecure in it's original format) and update the drivers for all your hardware (modem, video etc) to the latest versions. Look at updating the firmware on cards/modem etc as well and you may find that things will work better after that.
Additionally you could try formatting your hard disk drive and re-installing Win2K and then do all the upgrades if all else fails put your PC behind your car and run it over .. won't fix your PC but you'll feel much better .

I run Half Life and 10 mods on my Windows 2000 machine, and I get 100fps (that is the max in half life) and everything runs silky smoohth. I also have 15 other games Including Max Payne, FS2002, Combat Sim 2, Unreal Tournament 2003 and origional, Starcraft to name a few and they all run amazing.
What I suggest Mas a330 is to use only 100% compatable hardware with Win2k. Also I suggest that you have all your drivers up to date as well as Windows.

I think 1/2 life is a 32 bit application, I have it here but don't run it. You're suggestion about the hardware is a good one, many people assume that they can put whatever they like in a pc and it will work OK. But the fact is that it is really dependant on the skill of those who write the drivers for the equipment.

I can't really help you since I don't play CS too much anymore. I'm into another mod called "Day Of Defeat" now. You guys should try it, its awesome. No headshots like in CS and accurate WW2 era weapons. http://www.dayofdefeatmod.com
The game takes place in WW2 Europe, and is like CS, except each map has a set of flags to capture, or "Points". You choose your class (Sergeant/Rifleman etc... ) and then the weapons available to that class.

NVidia is one of the cheapest video cards you can get. I dont' know if that's your problem but it gave me nothing but hassles with my Win2K machine until I removed it (and put in a nice GForce Pro2 64 MB card).
