Congratulations is all I can say! First championship in 42 years.

I still can't believe they won.

...And somewhere, Barry Bonds is in a Steroids induced rage!  Big grin

It was worth the strike being averted just to see him lose in the World Series. Big grin Big grin

I was rooting for the Angels, because their grit and scrapiness appeals to me. That, and I didn't want to see that steroid freak, Barry Bonds, get a World Series ring.

Considering that I'm generally too nice and that I bite my tongue too much on this forum, here's a curveball...some World Series observations, straight from the hip.

1. Why were those kids in the Giants' dugout? They obviously don't belong there; with the potential for danger and the blue language, it's definitely not a good atmosphere for children (Case in point: Dusty Baker's three-year old son getting yanked out of the way at home plate). And what was with the voyeuristic camera shots of them crying after the Giants lost? Kinda like that shot of that kid crying at last year's Nebraska/Colorado game which some of our more classless forum members enjoyed so much. Keep the kids out of the dugout, please. They don't belong there.

2. The rally monkey in Anaheim and the rubber chickens in San Fran need to be retired after this season. Monkeys in general are just plain nasty and annoying and, concerning the chickens, I wouldn't pitch to Bonds with men on base either. That's not cowardice, it's intelligence. I may not like the guy (heck even some of his teammates can't stand his "me first" mentality) but I respect his talent.

3. Those infernal noisemakers need to go also. And I hope that the Anaheim fan that used hers to bludgeon the Giants outfielders was summarily escorted from the stadium; that's just poor sportsmanship.

4. Speaking of poor sportsmanship, how about the Giants' fans during the "Mastercard Most Memorable Moments" montage? First they boo Kirk Gibson and then when McGwire is introduced, they start chanting "Barry, Barry". Funny, it sounded like "We have no class, we have no class" to me.

5. How about Michael Eisner with the Mickey Mouse t-shirt during the trophy presentation? Look Mike, every person in the free world recognizes Mickey Mouse. We can do without one more gratuitous "product placement".

6. And while I'm on the subject of excessive advertising, won't it be nice seeing all those "Malcolm in the Middle" and "Girls Club" banners behind home plate when we look back at the video tape years from now? Before long, they'll just put the ads on the players' uniforms.

But now that I'm through venting, congrats to the Angels. After 42 years of futility, they won the big one. It's enough to give Rangers fans like myself some hope.

To me, the turning point was Speizio's 3-run bomb in Game 6. Major props to the whole Angels organization and their fans! I'm glad to see Iron Mike Scioscia win one as a manager after winning 2 as a player ('81 and '88 with the Dodgers), and this is definitely one for the Singing Cowboy!
