How Far Have You Traveled To See Your "other?"

Hey all,

I just bought a ticket to go see my girl in Pennsylvania, and I was wondering how many of you all have done the same. Figured this one might be an interesting topic. For me, it's 747 miles, and I get to fly on my first A321! Also my first Beech 1900 into podunk Reading Regional Airport....not so sure how I'm looking forward to the "son of a Beech."

Plane, boat, car, anything counts! Was it a "fling" or was it more serious?

Figured this could be an interesting topic...
Best regards
JBirdAV8r

In late 2001, I had been interested in/dated this girl, Maria, who lives in Malta. That's not far if you just calculate the distance in a straight line - we used to meet in Valletta, but in practice it does take a good hours to get there by ferry and car or bus. I didn't go there just for her, though - I was taking Itaian lessons in Valletta and that's where I actually met her.
Was it serious? Unfortunately no. I was very interested in her but sadly, it wasn't as reciprocal and all she wanted from me was dating. It all got worse with the year 2002 when, after the Christmas holidays, she found herself a different boyfriend. But I'm over her now, last time I saw her in person was June 6th, and I sent her a text message for this Christmas to which she did reply but ignored my question of how she was. I'm not messaging her again! (And besides, I'm in love once again right now.)  Smile
It's scary but the last time I've been out on a date with someone was in 2001! I really should put that right...

Well beat this. I met my wife when she was studying in the UK, but due to the Asian economic crash she had to return to Thailand. So for a period of 18 months while I was finishing my degree we commuted between Bangkok and London/Paris to see each other once every 3 months. Talk about expensive!

I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

My ex studied in Sydney, I was in Jakarta.
Gave up my job, and studied in Sydney.
Then as other matters needed my attendance in Jakarta, I was commuting between Jakarta and Sydney... clocked up 80,000 miles in 2 years while it lasted.

Well, Im from CT. Still live here.

I met my now wife when I was living in China. So thats JFK-PEK via NRT.

After I came back stateside, she went to Germany to work on her MA. Went back and forth 4 times. JFK-FRA once, and the ICE to Leipzig from there, and BOS-LEJ via FRA three times. Thank god one of the tickets BOS-LEJ was one that I won on Lufthansa's web page during one of their ticket auctions. I was the only bidder, and I got the ticket for $70, plus taxes, so about $170 roundtrip. So not only did I get to see the fiancee, got to do a good mileage run, too  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

When my wife and I first started dating, I was working in Quito, Ecuador and she was working in San Francisco. I made that trip about every 3 weeks via Houston for about 4 months.

So far, I haven't, but in a few weeks time, I may find out if I'll be using my flight privileges to commute between Boston and Montréal for someone that I've met.

During my 7 years of living in DC area I had only once local girlfriend  Smile hehe
And I didnt like it.
I've been traveling to those cities to girls I've been dating for quite long time:
DC-Toronto, Canada
DC-Montreal, Canada

DC-Atlanta GA
DC-Greenville SC

After 2 years of commuting from DC to SC she finally moved up and she lives with me. Last year I almost got Silver Elite status with Delta. I needed one stupid round trip!!!

I didn't travel anywhere...

But I had a former GF, who lived in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), and she traveled DAR-LGW (4002 nm), then LGW-ARN (798 nm) every 4 months for to see me (and doing some business here in Stockholm-Sweden...)

Anyone beats that?

Last year I would guess that I flew 40-60 transatlantic flights for this very purpose, I was more or less constantly in the air between IAH>LGW>IAH

Actually, flew PDX-PHX several times to visit her, and her family. Now we're married, so that's over.

Once went SEA-MCO, then bus to Albany, GA to visit a friend though.

Tom

The longest I'd regularly travel to see a girlfriend was a 370 mile round trip every two weeks between London and Leeds or London and Cardiff.

Then after meeting somebody else in 1997, we would commute between west London and NJ. Every 3 months for a year and a half. Approx 3500 miles each way. And to think I used to find the length of the M1 motorway a long haul  Smile
