Unfortunately, the auto workers union in the US will only allow 18,000 to 20,000 fully imported units per year so you'll have to get in quick if a trip downunder is beyond your means. (BTW interestingly, down here it's the govt not unions that set import quotas and tariffs).

The first of the Monaro models hit the market here back in 1968 with styling based on the Oldsmobile Toronado. By 1971 it had some features of the Pontiac GTO, and in '73 was available in a 4 door model. My father bought one of these new with the small 4.2L (235ci) V8 although it was also available with the small block Chevy 350 cube . From 1976 the Monaro badge was dropped and the design was moving from a muscle car to a "luxury" sports, the market demographic shifting from punks to yuppies; and by 1979 the first Monaro/GTS era was over.
