Check out the details of the General's newly resurrected sports offering here:

Also heard a review of this little beauty on the radio via NPR the other day.
Reasonably postive report from a motoring journalist- but he failed to mention the same info that the official GM site also omits.

You don't have to wait until the end of 2003 to buy one - you can put one on the road now!
Only catch is you'll have come down to Australia.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

See http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action/modeloverview?modelid=12001
Here it's called a Monaro and guess what, the ones you will eventually be able to buy in N. America will be manufactured here anyway.

Unfortunately, the auto workers union in the US will only allow 18,000 to 20,000 fully imported units per year so you'll have to get in quick if a trip downunder is beyond your means. (BTW interestingly, down here it's the govt not unions that set import quotas and tariffs).

Despite what the official Pontiac website shows, the only "Heritage" this new model has inherited from its ancestors is its name - yep folks, your new all American muscle car was totally designed, engineered and manufactured here in Australia as the Holden Monaro!

The first of the Monaro models hit the market here back in 1968 with styling based on the Oldsmobile Toronado. By 1971 it had some features of the Pontiac GTO, and in '73 was available in a 4 door model. My father bought one of these new with the small 4.2L (235ci) V8 although it was also available with the small block Chevy 350 cube . From 1976 the Monaro badge was dropped and the design was moving from a muscle car to a "luxury" sports, the market demographic shifting from punks to yuppies; and by 1979 the first Monaro/GTS era was over.

But the second era is starting!

Happy (and safe) driving

Yep, Perth, this is a great thing...

...discussed in great detail on these forums a week or so ago, and announced in the press some months ago.

But hey, good news remains good news.

And if the market wants more Monaro / GTO's, you can bet GM will bring 'em on.
