Don't know if I've ever heard more beautiful renditions of those songs. I still have goose bumps.

Why was Celine singing it? She is Canadian.

We were thinking the same thing before she sang it...but after we heard it, we said hell yeah.

I don't really care for blondes but the tiny dixie chick is hot.

And as usual, the COVERAGE of the flyover SUCKED! I can't believe they do not have people capable of following a few jets. Unreal.

Who cares? Is she not permitted to sing?

Shania is Canadian too.

Céline Dion sang "God Bless America" like she did after 11 September. I missed it and I'm sad. I wanted to see her perform.  Sad

Why would a Canadian sing America the beatiful, its an American song. I wouldn't expect an American to sing the Canadian Anthem at a Canadian hockey game, or an American singing at a Football game in England. Doesn't make sense.

Lighten up guys.

Robert Goulet (another Canadian) sang the Star Spangled Banner at some big event (can't remember what it was) 30 years ago -- and he forgot the words! And at the opening game of the Atlanta-Toronto World Series a few years ago, a US Marine honour guard carried the Canadian flag upside down.

You can't take this stuff seriously -- it's all show biz.

There isn't really a problem, she has a great voice, and as Captaingomes says she has dual citizenship. But I just thought it was odd, that a full blooded American didn't sing America the Beautiful. Nothing to get worked up about.

While "America the Beautiful" used to be (and in my opinion still should be) the American national anthem, it's a good song for her to sing, because, technically, it's a neutral song for a Canadian to sing. At last check, Canada was still part of America. People tend to forget that we're the United States of America, and that America also includes many other countries, including Canada.

Either way...the girl can sing, so I don't give a shit if she sang it in French!

I thought both of them did a fantastic job. I have never heard the Dixie Chicks sing without instruments, but they did a wonderful rendition. Their performance of the Star Spangled Banner is my favorite along with Faith Hill's performance at the Super Bowl several years ago (it was the Superbowl right?)
Celine has a stirring voice-no way around it.

Have Britney Spears go up and sing "Oh Canada" at the Grey cup opening.

Leave it to the marines to carry a flag upside down  Big grin. Poor guys. I've done that a few times with the US flag, though, and just use the excuse that I was in distress.  Smile

L-188, no, Britney can't sing. At least Celine can sing. Britney can keep her mouth shut and just stand there looking pretty, it's all she's really good for.
