CNN is reporting that the Shuttle was traveling at 18 times the speed of light. This is over 24 hrs. after the accident. Are people that stupid? I already called to bitch.

Bagmasher, did it ever cross your mind that someone just mis-spoke, for God's sake? All day yesterday, they were saying 18 times the speed of sound. Perhaps they just have mis-spoke and didn't realize what they said-you know-the way a lot of us do on A.net quite often?
If you don't like that, tune in the Republican News Network..er, Fox. I'm sure they're perfect.

It was scrolling on the bottom of the screen. Don't they research what they are reporting before they air it? It's not like they didn't have enough time to find out this very basic information. When I called, the operator said a great number of people had already complained.

I watched different broadcasts yesterday, and I thought CNN and NBC did a competent job. ABC was ok. Didn't watch CBS much.
As for the RNN, they're simply amazing. At one point, the commentator-I did nto hang around long enough to see who it was-used the President's graceful speech as a diatribe against the president's "political enemies", and began just heaping praise on Bush as if he were the Second Coming. It was a pathetic display of partianship by a network known for partianship. After that, I turned them off, and never returned.
Fox is nothing but a mouthpiece for the GOP, and why anyone denies this or thinks otherwise, is beyond me.

Bagmasher, it was probably programmed in there by someone who simply mis-stated it, for Christ's sake! I doubt anyone did it on purpose, for crying out loud. It just probably wasn't noticed in the control room right away.
Settle down about it, will you? You're making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I kept my TV tuned on Fox News Channel all day. Fox News just has better reporters, better camera feeds, and better commentators. If FNC is considered a mouthpiece for the GOP, then CNN certainly is considered the mouthpiece of the democratic party. A few months ago I read something on drudgereport.com that listed which organizations CNN has donated to---all left-wing organizations including the NAACP and the Rainbow Coalition. If you really want to debate which station is more popular in America--I suggest that you take a look at the ratings. FNC usually has 3 out of the top 5 most watched news programs. PMSNBC is just a disaster, no one will watch that garbage with that moron Phil Donahue trying to pull a left wing O'Reilly with an 0.2 rating. The people have spoken again and again, and CNN is on the decline while FNC is a wild success. People are tired of the left-wing bullshit that has been thrown at them for the past 20 years.

Alpha1: I heard CNN Headline News say "light speed" a couple times during the day when I was flipping channels. I was tempted to call them and ask them if NASA had Han Solos Millenium Falcon hyperdrive fixed hehe
I was tuned to MSNBC and Fox News though most of the time

No wonder you're so messed up, Jcs, if you watch that propoganda on RNN all day. And CNN is nowhere near as biased as RNN. I watched the last two elections on both-and the difference is startling. RNN is absolutely, openly, rooting for GOP candidates. I do not see that on CNN, nor any other network. It's a mouthpiece, and only those who are so far into the GOP camp that they can't see out of that tent will deny that truth.
According to RNN, the GOP has never done anything wrong in it's entire existence. I have no used for their rah rah brand of reporting.

The day after the election, Brit Hume actually was quoted as saying "we(Fox News) had a lot to do with these victories." Now if the primary anchor of CNN said "we helped the Democrats win"...conservatives would be screaming bloody murder (you scream bloody murder on everything anyway, but still. Bloody murder is your crack. You love it.)
The people have spoken again and again, and CNN is on the decline while FNC is a wild success.
"The people"? No, conservative people, who historically enjoy watching bitchy, pundit television better than sex, sleeping and excercise. Add up CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC and the rest of your "liberal" media and their audience dwarfs that of Fox.
People are tired of the left-wing bullshit that has been thrown at them for the past 20 years.
Damn, your brain isn't just washed, it's startched, pressed and folded, isn't it?

CNN's coverage has been outstanding! Politics aside their reporting has been informative and balanced. I haven't heard them accusing anyone or anything of causing this horrible accident. Miles O’Brien who CNN seems to always put on the back burner has done some great interviews, keeps the techy stuff understandable to the layman, and overall has shown a top caliber performance during this tragedy. It's just to bad something like this had to happen to truly show somebody’s journalistic abilities. Kudos to CNN for another great job at reporting the story.

CNN is horribly biased. The only people they interviewed throughout the whole Clinton mess were people who supported him! They never got another opinion. They're manipulative and very left wing. Don't blame Fox for being Right wing without first holding CNN accountable for their blatant liberal drivel.

Here's the sad part.....I bet the vast majority of Americans didn't even bat an eye when they heard "light speed"....most wouldn't question "warp 9" either.
As far as CNN goes, it's popular because it's flashy. Like USA today. Both are examples of ridiculously obvious hype but that's what the average American wants....bright colors and extraordinary stories that aren't necessarily 100% accurate. It's hard to compete with "Hollywood"

I think there's a reason why CNN is world-wide regarded as the No.1 news channel. They didn't get this high reputation by birth.
And, it's probably true that most of the viewers didn't notice the speed of light mistake, because they are interested in aviation or space. And they just realized that it was very fast. Just like we on here wouldn't notice these kind of mistakes on a news story of an issue we're not really informed about.
Mistakes happen, it's just human. There are more important things to worry about than a TV station mixing up 2 words.

Im sorry...But CNN is no where near as flashy as Fox News. Fox attempts to use bright colours and flashy graphics to keep the viewer mesmerized. Also, them constantly showing the American Flag on every shot seems to play to the nationalistic crowd. In a way...If the Third Reich were to have lasted to 2003...I imagine their news channel being something like Fox...Constantly showing off national symbols and flashy colours to brainwash the viewer. *Prepares for the flame*

Hey, At least they said SPACE SHUTTLE Columbia, I would have to say this is the FIRST time CNN has got it right. Usually they say shit like Airbus 747, or Boeing 347 (for a 767)
