Hya Everyone!

Happy Madri Gras! It's that time of the year in Sydney when all of the lesbian / gay community celebrates who we are.

This years chant and motto is:

We're here, we're Queer and WE VOTE!

A month long celebration of our community and how we interact with everyone is whats the deal this year. We've taken the old Mardi Gras barriers down and invited everyone to celebrate with us! (not that we haven't before but some events were restricted to gays / lesbians only - for security reasons only.)

Silver Aniverssary! 25 years of the biggest gay and lesbian celebration in the world.

Be proud! Have pride! And most of all be yourself!

FEB-MAR Syndney 2003.

ADG,

Come up to Sydney for fair day this weekend. It's an interesting event that comprises a dog show / drag show, tonnes of stalls and food sellers, a bit of a gay carnival. Always intersting to see and tonnes of different people from the community. Every one is welcome and this year a strong contingent of straight friends are going to see what the fuss it about.

I'll be going with my mate Jsmith, meeting with friends from everywhere and possibly a new beau. Teddy in the back pack and the household dog (Oscar the greatest albino Lab on the planet) plus some drinkies should make for an interesting day.

Qantas will have their big beer and *techno* dance tent replete with nice examples of QF male and female FA's in attendance so I am told.

Lot's of gays in Sydney at the moment arriving for the festival but a lot smaller than last years I think due to the Gay games in November.

Flyboyoz,

Will be at Fair Day not sure about the Mardi Gras parade as I have seen 15 years of them...

Cheers!

If Mardi Gras is tomorrow,it would be a great coincidence,as tomorrow all the Muslims celebrate the Aid-El-Idha where we sacrify a sheep as a celebration to Abraham's ritual.

Mardi Gras and Aid would be a joyful break !!!

ADG,

Was going to Avalon - or tossing it up but will miss out this year due to yucky split with a certain french Canadian *friend*. lol

Not sure what else is happening and I don't usually go to the parade anymore as it's too much of a pain to get home afterwards - even though Cityrail and Sydney Buses run 24 hours for the event.

Flyboyoz:

"http://www.mardigras.org.au/fairday/" hyperlink not working..??

Let me know if you want to meet up.

Cheers,

Yeah, I will miss Avalon yet again - but hopefully if I get organised it will happen next year.

lol

Flyboyoz:

Try again.. And cut and past the link to your browser, not sure why my hyperlinks are not working..

It's on this Sunday at Wentworth park near the Uni on Parramatta Road.

Lot's of People will be at Fair Day, I *always* run into someone I haven't seen in years and years. If you want to meet up there send me an e-mail - I will be with other gay spotters and the dog.

-------------------------------------------------

From the web site:

"""Fair Day is a much loved event of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras season which attracts more than 60,000 people to Victoria Park.

Hundreds of commercial and community stalls will be offering food and drinks,
fun activities, information and products. A number of activities are planned to
keep kids entertained with special fun areas.

Crowd pleasers like Doggywood's dog shows, the Miss and Mr Fair Day pageants will be highlights of the day. Roving entertainers including classical musicians will move throughout the park and a big line-up of entertainment is planned for the two main stages. The Scooter Stage and the Lounge Tent will be popular spots.

Everything from ballroom dancing and flamenco dancing to aerobics and self
defence will be on display and there will be lots of audience participation.

Fashion police will be on hand to keep everyone on their toes so make sure you slip, slop and slap in style for the day.

(BTW - Added by me - Slip, Slop & Slap is a national skin cancer campaign - slip on a shirt - slop on some sunscreen and slap on a hat.. Nothing dirty.. lol)

The Route 69 bus service will again run between Oxford Street and Victoria Park throughout the day.

2003 Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Fair Day

When
Sunday 16 February

Time
10.30am-5pm

Where
Victoria Park, cnr Parramatta and City Rds"""

Good to know that Sydney Buses (State Transit) has a sense of humor - note the Bus Route Number "69" LOL....

The dog show is a hoot - you get allsorts as you could imagine - one year I saw a 6'2" tall drag queen with a beard and a toy poodle in platform shoes and a hideous outfit! Which one is the dog indeed!
