1,700 US troops are set to conduct missions against terrorist groups in the Philipines, no advisory role this time.

News of this deployment surprised me.

That and the fact the Constitution of the Phillipines expressly forbids forgien military governments from conducting combat operations on it's land.

That was why when they went down last year to get those three missionaries, the Americans only provided support and the Philipine Army what the one performing the actual combat.

Well, I'm sure that if they are only sending 1,700 troops (and if the typical head/tail ratios apply, that means only 400-500 combat troops, the rest are logistics, command and support), that they are not your garden-variety infantry. These guys are either SEALS, Rangers, Marine Recon, or other such elite troops.

It will be Special Ops guys doing RECON, when they make contact they will radio a strike from the Marines Off shore. There's probably a LHD sitting off shore with about 900 Marines, when the RECON guys call the Marines will be ready to strike with Cobras, and Harriers.

Good news IMHO. Let the terrorists know that slowly but surely, their time is up. We're gonna get ya!

I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?
