I have been trying to remember this for days now to no avail.

Somewhere in the early 80's on what is channel 9 in New York, they ran a pretty bad horror flick on a saturday afternoon. I assume it was a late 70's/early 80's movie.

I seem to recall 3-4 girls and their car breaking down and then they walk to a nearby costume house(??) looking for help.

one by one, they get killed. BUt I remember one killing in particular. This guy ties this woman down and begins to put this putty/mud like stuff on her face, like a mask. He starts putting it on her face and all over her face and at the last moment, he covers her mouth and nostirls and suffocates her!

That is all I can recall. At the end, one girl (its always one) gets away.

anyclue what the movie was????? I am stumped?!! horror flick fans please help!

New York in the 80's, with a girl getting killed in the mud, maybe Friday the 13th, Jason Takes Manhattan?

You're all pointless: our friend saw the movie in NY, it wasn't actually set there?

The film Mirrodie described is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

it definitely wasn't the Twilight zone nor Jason takes Manhattan. (it wasn't one of the big name movies at all and for all I know might have been made for TV movie)

I saw the flick back between 1983-1986 I think.

About that scene, it may not have been mud but concrete or cement that he used to suffocate her. and he was talkiing thorugh it all. sick flick but i want to see it again. Just that scene has always remained in my memory banks.

I am looking at ta review of chainsaw massacre now but I doubt this is it too.

Sounds like one of those Lucio Fulci-flicks, time is about right and your description of the scene sounds somehow....familiar! Maybe try these, though I couldn't give you a title right except "the 7 gates of hell", pretty disgusting, this one, but it's not the one you're looking for!

I know it's only VfB but I like it!

La Main du diable
(The Devil's Hand, 1942)

While his son Jacques was injecting new blood into the American horror film with his first Val Lewton-produced work, Cat People (1942), Maurice Tourneur directed his first entry in the genre since returning home to France in 1928. La Main du diable (Carnival of Sinners [USA], The Devil's Hand [UK], 1942) is a modern and loose adaptation of Gérard de Nerval's short story La main enchantée (The Enchanted Hand), first published in 1832.

The film begins in the mountains on a dark and rainy night, when a mysterious man storms into an inn full of vacationers. The strange behaviour of Roland Brissot (Pierre Fresnay) catches everyone's eye. Compelled by the events as well as the hostility of the surrounding crowd, he reluctantly begins to tell his story. Once a failure as a painter—and as a man—he encountered Mélisse (Noël Roquevert), a restaurant owner who sold him a talisman that brought great success in both his personal and professional life. Unfortunately, as the viewer subsequently discovers, Roland cannot manage to get rid of the talisman—the left hand of a human being that is owned by the Devil himself (Pierre Palau).
