Ummm, your number 10 song is a Buffett tune actually (well, close, "My Head Hurts, My Feet Stink, and I Don't Love Jesus).

While I am a huge fan of country music, I won't even bother trying to defend it here, as I am sure you've all made up your minds already without ever hearing a single song.

Illini don't be sad, when superfly opened up the lounge music thread, a lot of people didn't like it either...ignorant  Acting devilish s...

btw: I just love k.d. lang, what a voice, though she'll now qualify rather for the pop and jazz side, still her old songs (absolute torch and twang etc.) were just as great as her new songs, my favorite

"big-boned gal" and "big big love"

and finally Johnny Cash, his American Recordings (4 of them, afaik) are music history; I couldn't pick a favorite song, one is better than the other.

oh yes: "raindrops keep falling on my head"...does that qualify as country?

I know it's only VfB but I like it!

Superfly,

Lionel Ritchie is country?? That's a new one.

If you want to hear good country music, there's plenty of good stuff, its alive and doing well. Just don't listen to the stuff they play on the radio!!! Faith, and Shania....*blech*...that's not country music. Its bad pop music, that's what it is.

Tbar220:
No Linel Ritchie isn't a 'country artist' but his 1984 hit 'Stuck On You' very much a country song and much better than what those simpletons from Nashville are putting out now.

Tbar220. Since Hootie can't give you a straight answer. No, Lionel Rirchie is not a country artist.

I certainly don't know who Hootie is but who said Lionel Ritchie was a "Country artist"?  Confused

Hootie, Tbar asked if Lionel was a country artist. You respond with he isn't "country" but his song was country. Well make up your mind. Lionel is not a country artist...period. Maybe his tune was a crossover, but he is not a country artist. What next, Isaac Hayes is punk?

Calm down Mr. Moderator.
You just proved my point, in a way.
I was making a discrete swipe at young country but I guess it was over your head. I figured you wouldn't get it anyway
Five of the seven artist I listed in my original post (#6) are NOT "country artist" but can still pull off a country hum-dinger better than these newer simpletons IMHO.

Keep doing what you do best (policing these threads) Mike.  Smile

Country peaked with Waylon Jennings if you ask me.

What gets me, is if you know most of your "list" was not country, then why include them on a country list? Last time I checked, I wasn't seeing Garth Brooks on any Motown lists.
