What Do You Call It?

CNN calls it the "War on Iraq". Other news programs call it "Operation Freedom" or "Target Iraq".

Here on Canadian TV they're calling "Strike on Iraq" or "Attack on Iraq". I've ever heard one Canadian News Anchor call it the "Iraqi Invasion".

Without getting into who's right or wrong, what are other news agencies in the world calling it?

I called it "Good Morning Bagdad" as a play on ABC's program.

The guy next to me at Happy Hour today called it "Goodbye Bagdad"

I think the official name is Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Have you noticed how every major happening has its logo now? First it was America Under Attack. Then it was America Strikes Back. Then there were some other ones, and after that we had Showdown with Saddam, and then Countdown To War, and at the moment we have Strike on Iraq/Attack on Iraq/Etc. I swear, I am so god damn sick of the news, I am not even watching them. Nobody has anything to say - CNN has nothing to say, I am not going to even go into those (fill in the blank) on FOX. I just hope that now that Dubya started the war, he has decency to finish it and return the soldiers home quickly.

P.S. - No GOD BLESS AMERICA from me. EVER.

Alex.

Alex,

It’s the iconography of America and its not only in the news. Even when W makes an appearance, you will see a wallpaper banner in the background with some phrase like “Corporate Responsibility” repeating (or whatever the development de jour is).

These names like "Operation [insert word that does not sound violent]" are stupid. Call a spade a spade. Its a fucking war.

Airhead...what an appropriate choice of username.  Big grin

I call it ridiculous and unnecessary. This war is the result of very basic, backward thinking. Shame it had to happen.

Well, first of, Airhead711, I am a fully naturalized citizen of the United States of America, and I do not regret my coming here. You have absolutely no right to tell me to go back to Russia. I came here legally, I have learned the language and customs, I work and pay taxes, and I am a registered voter. I also have no criminal record and traffic violations. I am a model citizen. Just because I disagree with the current policies or the President, doesn't mean I have to pack up my things and leave.

Now, please refrain from personal attacks in the future.

Alex.

Dear Airplay; did you really think people were going to stick to the topic? Come, now, you've always struck me as an intelligent man, so I'll just write it off as temporary insanity Nuts
