Reports are now that some cities north of Basra have been taken, cutting off any Iraqi forces from the rest of Iraq. Kind of like Dunkirk back in 1940.
Basra will have to be taken, but it can basically be bypassed now in the drive to Baghdad. I'm beginning to think (and hope) that a massive fight for Baghdad may not actually take place. There'll be some fighting, but it seems as if the whole Iraqi army as just vanished. For everyone involved, that would be the ideal-except for those who shall remain nameless who would LOVE to see a bloody firefight involving U.S. troops.
They won't remain nameless long. They'll come charging on here in just a little bit, I'm sure.
