Early May, I will be going to Los Angeles for my birthday as a little vacation....thing is, I'll be there for only 4 days, so anybody have suggestions as to get the most out of the four days there?

I have a couple of ideas already on the agenda when I get there:

Spot for a few hours near LAX (off grounds!) Know of any good sites?  Big grin
Go to the beach
see the Tonight Show

other than that, I am trying to figure out other attractions to go see in that somewhat short time span. Any suggestions would be very appreciated!

I was just in LA last weekend.

Here's what we did...

Flew in Friday night to LAX. Got the rental car and headed to In N Out for dinner. In N Out is a great place to spot at LAX, especially at lunch time. Lots of Asian Heavies landing. We then went to the Promanade at Santa Monica and rode the Ferris Wheel at Santa Monica Peer. Saturday we went to Farmers Market for breakfast, then to the new mall there, I forget what it was called... We then drove down Wilshire to Rodeo (we saw Vin Diesel driving an H2) then up to sunset and down to Will Rogers Beach. Later that evening, we drove down Mohalland Dr, took some pictures and had dinner at old town Pasadena. Sunday we went to Universal Studios, and hung out that night at CityWalk. Monday we went to a few museums, and then to Tito's tacos for lunch. After that, we headed out to Marina Del Rey, had dinner at the Cheese Cake Factory and then back to LAX for our flight home.

I love LA. Here are some other favories. Drive up PCH to the County Line and have lunch at that Clam Chowder place. I can't remember the name, but great clam chowder. Magic Mountain is a lot of fun and not too far. Check out the new Kodak Theatre on Hollywood Blvd, there's always lots going on there. If you like Museums, I recommend the Getty Center, it's free (except for parking) and they have quite the collection as well as awesome views of the valley and beautiful gardens. Venice Beach will always yield an eyeful, and there's always plenty of fun clubs on Sunset.

Anyway, let me know how it goes and have fun!

As someone living in LA, I think you should do exactly what Jeff did....

Thanks for the suggestions Jeff & Mhsieh!  Smile Santa Monica is in the plans currently as well for me.....Hopefully I'll have everything I want to do as tight as a script (though I know that unexpected suprises can make me do unexpectedly more which I hope is the case!)

In & Out? Is that something like a Sonic?

Farmer's Market is nowhere near downtown...it's at Third and Fairfax..about two blocks south of Melrose Bvd.

I was just in LAX last week myself....

I stayed in Santa Monica with a few of my friends, and with my brother that lives out there...

I would suggest going to the restaurant ENCOUNTER. It's a UFO looking thing right in the middle of the airfield... you can't miss it.

I would also suggest going to Santa Monica Peir. It's one of my favorite places to go. If you hit the beach (which you have to do) Go to NORTH of the pier... all of the sewage flows south. I would suggest going up by tower 8... My cousin Remy works there Sunday-Thursday. He can give you the low down on everything. If you see a black lifeguard, that'd be him. Tell him Jacqueline says "hi" (His name is Remy by the way)

I would also suggest going to venice beach, which is about a mile and a half away from Santa Monica Pier.

P.F Changs, on 3rd and Wilshire (Santa Monica) Is THE place to eat! They have the best Chinese food, but be prepared for high prices.
Then you should go to O'Brien's, an Irish pub about 20 blocks away (23rd and Wlishire) Willie, the bar owner is one of my really good friends, and he'll hook you up with drink specials.

That's about all I have! I go out there all the time myself, so I know what's going down out there. Have a great time, and enjoy the interesting variety of people

(Say hi to Remy for me!)

Thanks Mike for the offer, I'll definitely drop you a line! =)

Pilothica737: I'm going to stay not too far from Santa Monica, near El Segundo =) Funny thing is, I've been planning to go to the pier as well! Thanks for the warnings about (going north) =) Also, I'll tell your cousin Remy that you said hi if I run into him!

One night, I'll definitely have to go for a cold one or two to O' Briens as you suggested! (I live for Irish pubs!) =)

Encounter, hmmm.. That definitely sounds like a restaurant with my tastes!! Big grin

At least one of the days will be around the beaches..I'm thinking spending most of the day around Santa Monica, then going for parts of the day to Venice as well as Marina Del Rey...hopefully I can squeeze all three of them in 12 to 14 hours... Thanks for all these tips Jacqueline! =)

One thing about the Tonight Show, if no one mentioned it before or if you don't already know: it can be an all day thing. If you don't have tickets, get there pretty early in the morning and be prepared to come back around noon to wait in line. There is good street parking across the street from NBC, near the Acapulco.

If you don't want some of the hassle of Leno, Jimmy Kimmel is MUCH easier to get into. You can usually grab tickets in front of the Chinese Theater on Hwood Blvd. and then walk across the street for the show.

Feel free to email me if you need any help with Burbank info/directions.
