I've become fond of vegemite lately, but when I want an extra kick of protein after a work-out, it's chunky peanut butter on toast. It all depends on the mood for me.

FSP,

The mistake many make is to spread vegimite like peanut butter, it's used in "moderation" as described above.

Tastes great that way.

Crunchy peanut butter and cuecumber sambo's on white bread.

Warm tank loaf bread from a Bakery, butter and vegemite!

*yay*

Did anyone ever have the dreaded vegemite sambo in their lunch box in primary school?

Glenn,

The vege sambo's almost always got chucked in the bin at recess. Bring from home lunch wasn't an option in SE QLD as food would be warm and yucky by lunchtime.

This is a no brainer...now after my one experience with Vegemite in Australia, where I had a fingernail sized bit spread over a piece of bread, and ended up drinking fully 2 quarts of water in succession afterwards to try to wash the nasty flavor out, with a long lasting bad taste in my mouth, I think the choice here is obvious...Peanut Butter definitely  Smile

Found a tube of vegemite in one of my MRE's (Australian issued), it came with the one with Lamb with Vegetables, well all of them come with vegemite, mine just happened to be that one... Unfortunately no peanut butter. I wondered what it was but everyone set me straight.

Agreed it's a no brainer, peanut butter's better.  Smile

I guess you have to develop a taste for it.

Cheers

If eaten in the right quantities Vegemite is better. I never really aquired a taste for peanut butter. Vegemite is great in the morning to get you going for the day. Toast with some butter or margerine, thin layer of Vegemite and a thin slice of cheese. MMMMMM That sounds good right now.

There was Bonox...

But in SE Queensland people drank hot vegemite drink instead of Bonox.

We also had such delights as Jacaranda Brand Drinking Custard, ugh!

Who ever heard of drinking custard? (in lime and ricecream flavours as well)

Glenn,

I agree. We also had plastic bags of milk (not cartons) which was the stupidist invention yet.

The ricecream flavoured Jacaranda drinking custard was a treat...

I won't tell you how disgusting it tasted but ask a chick who swallows what it would be like if said *stuff* had boiled rice in it.

Ugh! I am gagging right now.
