Guys,

What do you think of your boss?

I think mine is a bit of an overbearing git sometimes and he *never* tells anyone *you've done a good job*, only ever critical of us.

Your thoughts?

My boss is a jerk.

The department I'm working in, is going to be merged with one in Copenhagen, and when we were told about it a year ago, we were told that noone was going to be fired, because they expected that some would quit anyway (due to longer travel time to & from work etc.).

Anyway, fast forward 1 year, and lo and behold, around 1/3 of the employees have been fired. So, I have around 4 months to come up with something better.

Rob,

I feel like doing it but don't want to jeopardise any good favour I might need in references. I've worked here for nearly 9 years and am considering moving to the Gold Coast with the b/f next year.

Goodness knows what I will do there!

That's fair enough but surely your organisation has some sort of "open and honest" (yeah sure) feedback mechanism for "managers"?

I can't talk as my "problem" is I tell it like it is and I was spoilt as the first Manager I ever had was excellent (still give him a call some times) and just about every one (with one exception) since then has been a real disappointment (particularly those I encountered in Rio Tinto) leading me to tell them so when the opportunity presented itself.
For example :
"With reference to the organisational "Trust" value I trust you about as far as I could comfortably spit a rat." (Ever seen a Manager's jaw drop onto the ground in front of all of the prople he was "presenting" to?)
"What you have just displayed to me can only be described as weak leadership." (Ever seen a Manager go really dark red?)

You can see I make Dilbert look like the ideal model employee!

With regard to the Gold Coast there would probably be heaps of opportunities in Brisbane for you wouldn't there? Even if your boy friend (shit you can write that on this forum without a precision munition landing on you!) goes on ahead and you follow later when an employment opportunity arises. Otherwise hey it's the Coast - heaps of things to do!

I have two jobs...

1) I work at a Retirement Community in the Dining hall as a waiter: My boss probably didn't graduate from High school considering her awful grammer. Also, its incrediable how biased the workforce is in the dining hall. I can almost be positive that because I am white and go to a private school, they treat me differently. The don't give me the respect I deserve nor the amount of slack that the other employee's get.

2) I work at a Country Club as a Busser/waiter. My boss here is the coolest guy around. He makes his own cheese dips for the clubs members who come to dine in the "Grill." Also, he always has a cheery attitude toward the task at hand. I respect him greatly and will happily workl for him any weekend!

I must be lucky, I've never had an asshole boss out of the eight jobs I've had.

Right now at the Georgia Dept of Transportation were I work full time every other semester, the two bosses I've had have been really cool.

At a car wash I work at on the weekends, I've drank beer with my boss in his office and even went out to some bars him and another manager. How awesome is that?

I want to kill her. Not in a psychotic way, more in a well thought-out, pros and cons, measured way. Her and the complete pageant of management above her.

I'll probably just quit instead. I hate corporate America.

He's been kinda grumpy since I stopped sleeping with him.

Just kidding. Actually, he's a jerk. Full stop.

He's a mediocre attorney and is afraid that any number of us will have his position in a year--we are all far more competent.

Oddly, he is also the lowest $$$$ earner for settlements--so his days are probably numbered in his current position. Of course, we bring this to the attention of other senior managers monthly. Regretably, once you are a partner--it's fairly hard to have you ousted.

Rob,

Our Australian division isn't really that big so the line of authority is my boss and that is it. Not to mention we are supposedly friends as I am with his wife.

Regarding the GC - I don't wish to commute to Brizvegas everyday and am not expecting the same job or money as I get here in Sydney. Just something comfortable!

Not sure what that would constitute on the GC. Not hospitality though - blah!

And I love the GC, vulgar place that it is.
