Don Cherry, who is a pretty famous sportscaster down south in Canada is in trouble for comments that is made on the government owned television network. Cherry hosts the Hockey Night in Canada show and is in trouble with the network heads, for a somewhat heated discussion on the Coaches Corner of the show where he condemned the fans of the Montreal Canadians for booing during the national anthem.
The CBC apparently received many complaints about the show, and no doubt was also influenced by their owners, the Canadian Governments, Stance on US actions. But Cherry is reporting that his has received a lot of positive support including from the president of the National Hockey league Players Association.
I haven't seen Hockey night in Canada since I left North Dakota but my own personal opinion is that the government is trying to squash pro-us sentiment and is using a bunch of Canadians pissed off because the show wandered from hockey to do it.
Messing with a Canadians Hockey is like stealing their beer.

Grapes is the man! He tells it like it is, and unfortunately the Canadian government is a very poor representative for the average Canadian who believes that the liberals should be backing the U.S. Talking about riding the coattails, Ron McLean is a veteran of that...riding the coattails of Cherry. I'm surprised he had the balls to stand up to him.

Don Cherry is indeed the man. The American Radio show was the Jim Rome Show, and I as well as JCS heard this classic interview. Grapes NEVER said he was going to be sacked by the CBC. He did say that he stood by his comments, and if that meant that he had to go, well then he had to go.
AC320. It doesn't matter that the anthem was 'cheered' the next night, the fact is that it was booed in the first place. Every bleeding heart liberal ass Que-becker would and have had a shit fit in the past when the situation was reversed.
Like Cherry said, how come only the Anti-U.S. sentiment coming out of Canada gets the media attention. All the pro-U.S. and the pro-war efforts get nothing. The majority voice of Canada is not being heard, and when Don Cherry pipes up the government wants to cry a river.
JCS...If only we had a transcript of Gordon in Toronto's last phone call. That told it all as well.

"...down south in Canada"
Oh god, please don't make me pull out a map. Either this was an intentional joke or you really have never looked at an atlas
Secondly, although the Government does own the CBC I am surprised that they did anything. I mean when if you have ever watched This Hour Has 22 minutes, they have said and done many worse things (which are always commical )

Grapes interview on Rome was one of the great ones. I really enjoyed listening to him. Especially as he started deviating into "English" Canada and Quebec. But you gotta hand it to a man that has the balls to say what most Canadians are thinking, and I love how he ended the interview by letting all the clones out there now that most Canadian's have a very different view than the government.

I like Don Cherry, I met the man when I played Pro Roller Hockey in Anaheim California. I have tremendous respect for the man and wouldn't like to see him get fired for anything. I don't know why but when he say's something off-color it seems ok, reason being, he’s a man’s man, no spin just the facts.
