As I said before this war is playing out exactly like the last.

Iraq reports we are being defeated.

Iraq attacks its neighbors after cal to "Jihad" doesn't work.

Iraq begins to kick out journalists, especially those who can help them like Al-Jeezera.

Today the final straw to break his back, An Iraqi Cleric has issued a Fatah for all citizens to put down their weapons and stop fighting the Coalition. Even Saddam can't countermand a Clerics order for a Fatah.

The resistance is over for the regulars who are melting back into society and only the most dedicated who have their lives to lose regardless of outcome remain.

War over in two weeks tops.

I agree that war will be over in two weeks, but I think there still will be some resistance, like Palestinian one against Israeli occupation, especially if USA will disagree to let Iraqi citizens democratically elect government (and allowing Al-Bath to cadidate also) and put in some occupational or puppet government instead, like they said they would do...

10 years almost to the day later, Arabs with long memories explode a LNG tanker in the East River, killing 20,000.

10 years later Arabs with long memories infiltrate through the Florida Keys as Cuban refugees and plan an orchestrated machine gun attack on crowded Saturday afternoon shopping malls across America. Hundreds killed, mostly kids.

10 years later, Arabs with long memories fly a cargo DC-10 originating in Ecudaor into the Capitol building. Over a thousand killed, including over 1/3rd of Congress.

10 years later Arabs with long memories detonate a crude nuclear bomb made from long lost Soviet-era materials a mile from the Superbowl. Over 100,000 dead.

Tech, we steamrolled over the Iraqis in 1991. And the seeds of September 11th were planted and germanated.

Every action has an equal an opposite reaction. This war will not end with the last echo of the last shot in the neighborhoods of Iraq (probably Tikrit....it cracks me up that the media think it's all over once the M1's roll downtown).

No this war is really just starting.

Israel beat the shit out of the Arabs in the 60s and 70s too. What a sustained peace they've found.

This war as far as Iraq goes is in its last stages, there may be some tough fighting, but the question of who is going to win is now a formality.

Therefore, in less than two weeks, the troops managed to secure the oil fields, avoid a humanitarian disaster, surround bagdad, limit the civilian casualties to a minimum (less than any other war in history), avoid Israel, Jordan and Saudi getting hit with missiles and all this while many of you criticesed them the whole way.

Well done to the troops, they are in a tough situation out there, I know I would be shitting myself if I was there will bombs falling everywhere and bullets whizzing by my head... easy to sit and here and be armchair commander.

TechRep, you are wrong about the Jihad.

With some insight in the Islamitic religion (not that I have a lot of insight in it), you should know that Jihad can NOT be asked by Saddam Hoessein.

He has not the right to ask for Jihad, the Muslims know this so they are not listening.

And another thing about Jihad: a Jihad is DEFENSIVE, not OFFENSIVE, so leave them allone, and there will be no Jihad.

HeavyMetal, that stuff is going to happen anyway. As soon as its possible, it will happen. Especially the Super Bowl scenerio. All they need is a evil SOB with some WMDs and a hard-on for the US. I hope if one comes around, he's offed before he has the chance to work a deal.

That's like saying biblical Armageddon is going to happen anyway. If we're resigned to that fact, well yeah...it's going to happen.

Why couldn't we 'off' Saddam? (Actually I think we did....less than two hours after we said we would.)

My speculation has no bearing on reality. I wish I was capable of that. LOL! But I really do think its inevitable. All it takes is a dirtbag like Saddam; a mass-murdering thug with WMDs at his disposal. The formula for mass deaths, be it Americans, Europeans, Southeast Asians...whomever the thug is pissed off at. I suppose that explains my support for the pink slip Bush is giving him.

Why couldn't we 'off' Saddam? (Actually I think we did....less than two hours after we said we would.)

I wonder that myself and I think you're right about actually doing it.

Over in two weeks? Naaa, don't think so.
It will now gradually change into a different phase.
There has been so much talk about "house to house fighting" in the streets of Baghdad. I don't believe in it. I don't believe that it has ever been part of general Franks' war plan.
They will have to come out instead. It will take some time. Patience will be needed.
"Too fast" will be too "expensive" and too destructive to the cities where people will have to live afterwards.

As for Heavymetal's fears: Unfortunately you may be right. Nobody can guarantee the opposite.
But whatever way we put it, with a normalized and prosperous Iraq the risk is reduced.
If instead we are a little optimistic, then a prosperous Iraq might start a snowball effect in the region and restore its glory of thousands of years ago.

The "war" will be over in two weeks. The repercussions of the war will be felt for decades to come.

Heavymetal, sounds like you're saying "let Muslims do whatever they want because if you don't they're going to launch terrorist attacks against you".

That last could be true, but that's no reason to capitulate.
If the world had always given in to threats of possible future violence there would be no democratic government in existence now, only eternal tribal warfare.

It does when you say it, Jay baby!!!! Amazing, though, those words didn't quite make it to through my keyboard.

I'm saying what I've always said before during and after this combat. It was unneccessary.
