AIRLINERS.NET CREW
SITE ADMIN

I've just installed a new add-on to the web server that is supposed to increase the speed of some operations with up to 300%. It's an evaluation version and will only work for a month, after that I'll have to pay $2000 for it!

Is it worth it? Do you find the site faster to access and use, especially during peek hours (US afternoon and evening)?

Please advice.

Thanks,
Johan

Johan,

I've noticed speed increase while using the site. Specially when I am posting to the forums. Before it used to take for ever to post a paragraph or two. Now it seems that it is faster.

Hello my dear Johan! How are things? How are your studies?

ANyway, no improvement noticed here in Hemel Hempstead, United Kingdom however between posting in forums and the confirm message page, it has actually got a bit slower.

Internet access from where I come to this site is at 500+ kbp, and even with that I can still see improvement. It's become even faster. It has to be said I'm in UK...

It seems about the same speed for me over here in North Carolina. Usually its fine on Netscape and IE, but everyonce in a while it gets hooked up while contacting the host www.linkbuddies.com. I don't know if that helps any. I was thinking the other day, I wonder if it would be any faster if instead of having the discussion pages inside airliners.net, to have the discussions set up as a different website that is linked from A. net. For example www.airliners_discussions.net. I am not sure if that would make any difference but it may.

It doesn't work here, but I have a 56kbps modem so I think I am already at my limit of opening this site.

And by the way 2000 dollar??? That sounds like awfully lots of pop-up screens

I've noticed it is a lot faster, but I don't think it would be worth $2000. I was quite happy with the way it was.

Yea...

I'm getting hung up for about 5 seconds before each page loads with something loading from linkbuddies.com. I don't see much of a difference either, so believe me Johans even if it did it's certainly not worth $2000!

Actually, the site has been slower today. I haven't noticed much of a difference. A little extra speed isn't worth $2000.

Yeh, I've been noticing some increased speed on your site, despite I'm using DSL. But the $2000 is definetely not worth it!  Sad

Not certain, but loading forum pages does seem quick. I'm using a Cable modem.

Now if only Netscape wouldn't occasionally cop out on rendering a page, requiring either a reload of the page, or a quit and relaunch. And IE seems especially prone to quitting when I read the forums (I open each thread in a new window, so that threads don't move around the message list every time I go back to it).

Hi Johan,

It does seem faster, but the speed problem at my end is the University LAN which is basically in a shambles. If too many people are on it, no amount of power at the Webmaster's end seems to make much difference...

Thanks

This site has been extra slow for me today, each page takes at least 30 seconds to a minute to load. I have a cable connection, so I doubt it's that.

Keep up the good work, Johan.

So half of you think it's faster and the other half think it's slower. Great.  Big grin

I have indications on that some problems can be caused by one of the ad servers I'm using, that should have been fixed. I might also not have configured the new software optimally, I'll look into that.

Thanks for your comments,
Johan

It has been alot SLOWER for me the past few days. Today has been really bad, it takes like 3 mintues to load a page, thats really bad. I thought it was great before, so I really dont think its worth the 2 grand. Hey, if its not broke, dont fix it.
