Guys,

Another aussie theme..

Who has a Hills Hoist clothes line?

Did have one..

Used to swing on it when I was a kid, but the new ones are a little more fragile than the old ones.

Well in Australia the probability of having one would have to be pretty high but probably not as high as in the 60s (suspect then it was about 99.9999999999%).

Mate it wasn't an aussie BBQ without kids swinging on the hills hoist.

I remember when ours (just) overhung the good old above ground pool. Get a run up, grab onto one of the arms, let go when in ballistic range of the pool and hope for the best sploosh landing. Ah those were the days!

TSV,

LOL

I remember the same thing when living on Bribie Island in SE QLD.

We'd take a big run up and grab onto the hills and *sploosh* into the pool we'd go.

And I remember the countless times one of us would scape our bums on the pebble crete doing the same thing..

lol Aussie kids..

We have a hills hoist and like many it lists to one side which is cool cause the kids can hang their clothes on it  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

As for the running jump into the pool, gone are those days now we have become a "litigeous" country. *sigh* ...

ADG,

Not in your own backyard surely?

The new hills hoists are flimsy green things that are not exactly made for *playing* with.

*sad*

But the big old grey metal things are still around!

Got a big 'ole grey hills hoist in my backyard. Not quite sure why as it lists to one side and is firmly emplanted on a sloping block.

Stupid idea really

Who remembers those spate of cases where the old hoist corroded at the footing junction and fell over? Did anyone get killed or severely injured?

Notonly do we have a Proper Hills Hoist, we also own a Victa lawnmower 9now NZ owned) but the Aussie backyard is steeped in heritage. The inner house, what we like to refer to as the inner circle is truely Japanese  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

We have the green hills hoist in our back yard, never as good as the old grey one we had at our old house. Only good thing with the new ones is you can fold then up. Beats running into them and smacking your head on one of the bars.

Thanks Glenn. Yet another product to boycott.
