According to a highly reliable unnamed source, the government recently conducted experiments in South America, combining the DNA of bats with elephants to create what was code named "Project Dumbo". Apparently the idea was to take the "carrier pigeon" concept to the fullest, so that they can carry much larger payloads across enemy lines. Unfortunately, many of the flying elephants had to be shot down when they strayed outside the containment area.
This has all the elements of a classic hoax, but still.......
