I have to do this simple little 15 minute presentation about something in European History from the dates 1850-present. I want to relate it to aviation but I don't know much about European Aviation so I was wondering if some of you guys could come up with a topic focused on aviation with european relation. Thanks in advance Big grin

You could always do something about Sir George Cayley, inventor of the first piloted glider!

I think he had something to do with inventing the tractor too.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

You could go into depth on Otto Lillienthal and how his work influenced the Wright Brothers, and thus the airplane.

Perhaps something on the Zeppelins and dirigibles of the time, from inception to Hindenburg.

A.V. Roe's "Avro" aircraft might also be of interest. Blériot was a pioneer, he did the first crossing of the Strait of Calais in an airplane. You could also find interesting things about the British and what they invented for cennecting their empire, maybe highlighting the trip to Oz-land in a Vickers Vimy.

Recent bankrupties like SABENA or Swissair. Or the not so recent ones like Fokker. On a positive (?) note you could also discuss the rise and rise of low cost airlines like Easyjet and Ryanair.

And since Concorde is mentioned in every post recently, I advice you to do a report about Concorde.

You could argue the point that aviation began in Europe (before eveyone goes off on me, the first time man left the ground was in France in the late 1700's in a balloon.) It is widely known that Lilenthal heavily influenced the Wright Brothers' designs, so there is also that European connection. Also, we owe our modern-day space program to Europeans (von Brown and the rest of the WWII German rocket scientists).

Petertenthije: I decided to do my project on the Concorde which is already done(after 5 hours of grueling work with powerpoint Big grin ). It consists of 20 slides and is a brief brief overview of the history of the Concorde and Tu-144...

Thanks again,  Big thumbs up

Perhaps you can do it on Europe's penchant for appeasement that seems to turn up every 50 years or so?  Wink/being sarcastic
