And there's nothing wrong with changing the look of it either! What they ought to do is to do away with the penny altogether! I actually like the new designs (after the initial getting used to it) of the paper currency and I look forward to these new nickels.

Coin designs used to change a lot more often 50+ years ago. It is nice to see the new state quarters. However the Lewis and Clark nickle will only be temporary. Thomas Jefferson and his house will be back on it soon enough.
Now the dime could use some sprucing up.

Down here in Mississippi we're getting flooded with the new Alabama quarters. I like the Helen Keller theme, although one celebrating Huntsville, Werner von Braun, Marshall Spaceflight Center, and the Redstone Arsenal would've been nice too.

I agree with the pennies going away. Australians seem to have no problem at all rounding prices up or down to compensate for not having the useless coin. How many of you actually spend you pennies on a regular basis? Whenever I get a penny it goes straight into a jar sitting no my shelf. When the jar is full I take it to the bank and get cash.

Great! It will be nice to show the Louisiana Purchase and also show what idiots the French were for selling it.
The coin will honor the 1803 Louisiana Purchase, which is the name given to Jefferson's decision to buy 800,000 square miles of land from France. It meant that the country doubled in size overnight, adding future states including Missouri, Iowa and Louisiana.
Heh, the French don't make decisions too well when it comes to the U.S. do they?
In keeping with the "We hate the French" theme I kinda like it. The French will hate us more for it!

You assume from my post that I am a Republican? You assume I hate the French? You assume I love to rally around something to hate?
Frankly I could care less who hates whom. But I do like to rub peoples faces in it. And having a shiny new nickel in my pocket honoring a great U.S. President and his decision to buy the land being offered for sale by a corrupt and Napoleon led country makes me kind of chuckle vis a vis our current state of relations with our French friends.
