"Ignore Post List" - Would You Put Someone In?

Imagine a.net profiles had the following option: a list of users whose posts you don't want to read. Every time you read the forums, their posts will either only be shown as existent, or you won't see them at all. That way, the "extreme right-wing ar$eholes" would be able to spare themselves from the "idiotic socialist responses of those liberal morons" and vice versa...  Laugh out loud

I guess that it might save some people from serious anger every day, but it would also prevent some interesting discussions from starting. So considering this, are there users you would or definitely would not include in that kind of list?

Please note that this is not intended to be an offense to anyone, so I'll start right away with some folks I would never or rather not include: 747-451, ADG, Alpha 1, DeltaASA16 and of course a whole lot of people whose posts in the Civil Aviation and Tech/Ops Forums I'll hardly ever be able to compete with.

Cheers!

Well, I argue it's our differences that make life interesting. No one should be banned for their political or social positions or opinions.

No, bad idea. Half the threads would be a collection of unrelated posts (as opposed to the collection of unreasonable posts they are now).

Perhaps some kind of once-a-year/month "shut the f++k up card' you are allowed to throw on someone and delete their posts on a particular thread for no reason.

Quite true, but I'm not talking about bans or such. Just something to prevent you from getting mad about posts on an internet forum.

I would argue that should come from self-control or putting anet in perspective rather than via a form of censorship.

I think it's pretty harsh to say someone never has anything worthwhile to say. I can't imagine deliberately ignoring someone's posts. After all, we're all entitled to speak our minds, no matter how much we may disagree with each other. That's the beauty of the forums.

Cedarjet, I could care less what anyone else says. Say your opinion and you have the right to it. I'll just skip over it if I don't want to read it. On the other hand, this thread was started, not as an idea for site improvement, but as an attack on other members.

So mods, why is Nutsy and several others here allowed to make a personal attack and yet I've had messages deleted for the same thing. Oh that right, I forgot that certain people on this forum have a pass when it comes to following the rules.

Well, that's exactly what that list would facilitate / make unnecessary...

"On the other hand, this thread was started, not as an idea for site improvement, but as an attack on other members."

Was it? "Please note that this is not intended to be an offense to anyone". Nope, it was started to be the expression of a wild idea - nothing I suppose to improve a.net; if that was my point, this thread would be in the site related forum.

B757300, I have no pact with the moderators, but judging from your previous posts, it is easy to understand how they might dislike you. You are a big baby. "Idiot Rats" does not count as an opinion, numbnuts. You are a classic example of the man who cries "fire!" in a crowded theater.

No, I wouldn't want to filter my posts. It's nice to see posts by sheltered neophytes who think they know what they are talking about, lower themselves by name calling or being narrowminded and judgemental (D@vidB, Aloges, Schonerama, 777-236  Insane  Yeah sure).

All kidding aside, blocking posts defeats what a "forum" is all about, differing opinions and points of view.

I sort of agree with the idea, but I know in realism it won't happen most likely. I just have my own informal blacklist right now (just two users on there at present time)...any post with their user name, I don't read....pure and simple.......

I only blacklist users who speak from both mouths, or cannot contribute to a discussion without engaging in personal attacks, and the BL is purely a last resort.

Personally, I like to see the opposing viewpoint in things as well, so most people who can do a constructive discussion/disagreement will NEVER get on the list, regardless of how much I disagree with them......

I would put nobody in an ignore list. Sure, I really don't like sometimes what some people say, but why should I restrict my self to only one point of view?
