Guiness is truly an acquired taste as L-188 said. It kind of reminds me of motor oil, but we all have our own opinions. Also remember: Typically, the worse it tastes, the faster it will get you drunk. As Guiness contains more alcohol per volume.

Guiness is excellent BUT it is famous as a poor traveller.
If there is a more locally made stout try that instead and please, never from a can or bottle.

Yeah its poor when its in a can, even with the widget. If you are going to drink it fly to Ireland and drink it off tap in a pub.
All Bitter doesn't taste to good in a can, in fact it doesn't taste very good at all if you are used to drinking piss.... uhh i mean Lager

Guiness is the Stout that's safe for your mom & dad to drink.
I am a Stout connossiuer!
I love dark stouts. Guiness is OK but far from a outstanding stout. It's the diet pepsi of stouts in my opinion. I like my stouts to drop out in globs and chunks.
Give Guiness a try. I prefer some of the local micro-brewed stouts and porters instead.
My favorties are Moylans and Old Russian Rasputian Imperial Stouts.
You can't go wrong with an Imperial Stout!
Honestly, this is a winter time drink for when it's cold. Stouts go great with a slice of fruitcake.

Guinness is not for everyone. If Corona is your favorite beer, then, you won't like Guinness.
Personally, I can't get enough of the stuff! Then again, I'm a bit of a lush

I like Guinness, but there are other stouts I like more than Guinness:
Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout
Mackeson Triple Stout
Dogwood Stout (a really good local microbrew)
Murphy's Irish Stout
Sam Adams Cream Stout
Dragon Stout (from Jamaica, unavailable in GA because it's more than 6%)
Beamish Stout
I'm really more of a Porter man than a stout. I tried Samuel Smith Imperial Stout once, and to me, it tasted like soy sauce.
If word gets out about this, Krazy Klown Airlines will be a laughingstock.

If you like drinking liquid mud, then stouts are pretty good. Far too wheaty or yeasty or something for my taste... I much prefer Ales and Lagers.

I have to stand up for my home country and it's water...er beer. Guinness is certianly an aquired taste. I personally hated it the first time I tried it. But like my grandfather said (he has been drinking it for 50+ years) "After 3 you are on it for life." It's true. I have never tried it in the United States. But in Ireland, my uncle works for guinness at the St.James Gate Brewerry, So I usually get the best. I recently just got back from Ireland and I saw the Guinness factory and in gravity (the guinness bar) I had the BEST pint I have ever had. nuff said. I am not really a beer guy though. I much prefer Smirnoff Ice (the real stuff from Europe, not the wussy American crap). just my 2 cents

Exactly! Greetings from a fellow beer connoseur/snob Guinness stout is OK, but I too consider it as more-or-less an "entry level" stout for those with limited beer exposure ( and I mean 'beer', not watered-down, mass-marketed slop ) wanting to try something exotic of sorts. When the talk comes to dark beers, I always hear the usual cadre of people who gush and praise Guinness, and will have nothing but Guinness...but it turns out it's the only dark beer they've ever had.
I'm referring to what is readily available stateside of course...and it IS probably the most prevelant stout available on the shelves ( other than Sam Adams stout...not bad either ) so, on balance, if it gets more and more people interested in better beer, I guess it's a good sign afterall.
BTW L-188: Stout, porter, ale, pilsener etc........it's ALL beer man.

ISTR surviving on something called Alaskan Amber a couple of years ago.
Seemed nice enough...?
But there's no match for British / Irish / Belgian / German.
(Depends precisely which beers you're into)

I am not that big fan of Alaskan Amber.
Tastes too much like the other beers in this country

26 Bobrayner: Unfortunately, I gave up drinking for the year (as a new years resolution). It just means my Chimay Bruin will have another 12 months maturing in the
27 Cba: Yeah, American beers just don't have the taste that their German counterparts too. One of the best I've ever had is a Spatten (Munich).
28 Ual747: Does anyone like the Japanese beers? I prefer Kirin Ichiban. UAL747

30 Saintsman: L-188 No distributer? Sounds like a business opportunity. I used to drink Guinness in my youth all the time. I gave it up when it made me too fat. Now
31 L-188: Too regulated of an industry for my taste. Then again.....if I ever do open that airport microbrewery.... I have it ELECTRA ALE!!! View Large View Med
32 Mirrodie: Speaking of beers, look up FLYING FISH beer. Its a microbrew out of New Jersey with a subtle aviation tone to it. I love GUINNESS. But its not a stout
33 American_4275: I had a pint of Guinness for the first time in Greece - actually enjoyed it very much. Thought it was going to be thick as beef stew and taste horribl
34 Go Canada!: Guinness is the most fantastic drink poss and the best place for it is the west coast of ireland.
35 Rindt: Hmmm... I've had the liquid lunch on tap, and on bottle, and cant' say either did much for me. Guiness is usally never served super-cold like most bee
36 An-225: I enjoy Guinness a lot, but of course, there are other things that are a little stronger. Try Baltika 6 for example - a fine Russian beer. Old Rasputi

38 Superfly: I certainly trust An-225's opinion on beer/stout. Last time he was in town, we got wasted on a few fine Stouts/Porters when he was her in SFO. Gunines
39 LPL: I always find stouts a bit 'heavy' and they always make me feel tired.
40 An-225: Baltika 3 is not exactly a stout. Baltika 6 on the other hand... mmmmm... Good stuff. They don't sell it here, but I think Baltika 15 is what Superfly
