Yes, that annoying little standup walking scooter is being tested to be put in rtegular use by the New York City Police Department.

.....as if you're going to be able to catch crooks with it.

We had to close firehouses because we have little money, but we have no problem spending $5,000 each for these COMPLETELY unnecessary things. Not to mention the 3.2 million for gay schools. Half a dozen of those thigns can pay a fireman's salary for a year.

I swear, soon, I'm going to sue Bloomy for stealing my money. He might as well just come into my home with a shotgun.

Thanks again Mayor Bloomberg!

lmao, of all things why the Segway? Or is this just to boost the NYPD to become the epitomé of laziness? Now they don't even have to walk from their car to the donut shop!

You can't chase criminals on it, so they'd have to get off from it and ditch it. And then it will be stolen of course.

I've never even heard of the Segway let alone seen one. I checked it out at their website. I think it's dumb for cops to use this thing!! How fat do they want the cops to get?

It looks like the Segway could be fun to rip around on, but cops?! Will they have sirens and little red and blue flashing lights? lol

Will the police versions be supercharged?  Laugh out loud

Actually, you bring up a good question.

Where would you put the light?

Will the cop have to wear a fez with a gumball light mounted on the top or what?

Thanks L-188!

Quote from the website:
Our engineers were so obsessed with the details on the Segway HT that they designed the meshes in the gearbox to produce sound exactly two musical octaves apart--when the Segway HT moves, it makes music, not noise.

There was a student living in the dorms last year who used it to commute between them and the classrooms. A mere 10-15 minute walk at most. Talk about a waste of money, I laughed hysterically everytime I saw him scooting around.

The NYPD makes considerable use of motor scooters. Segways might be an alternative to those.

the scooters are what they use in crowds, like say on july 4. they are good ways to get around in between people. but they already have those, and they know they work. why go spending more money to test the segways?
