Hey all,

I'm watching CNN and they're reporting massive blackouts in New York city, Detroit, Cleveland, Toronto, Ottawa and now parts of Toledo. This seems very suspicous!

This broke just about 30 mins ago so it's not on CNN's website yet.

This is very strange....All those cities power grids couldn't be linked could they?

Hmm. i am curious as to how widespread this REALLY is. The media is making it sound like whole entire states have lost power. But... I'm in New York state, and the power is certainly working here. I guess it is only certain cities within these affected states and provinces.

Next flight.... who knows.

Well, I think most of New York city is out of power, including the 3 airports as well as YYZ. No flights leaving any of these aiports because the Securtiy scanners aren't functioning.

They're saying it looks like the Niagra plant was overloaded and that's what caused the blackouts. All these big cities reliant on this one plant? That's a bit vulnerable don't you think?

That's what I heard on the news - the western US is on one grid, Texas is on its own grid, and the entire eastern US and eastern Canada is on a third. Very wierd how that works, but I'm certainly no expert on the subject...

Okay! Some news from north central NJ..

We lost power at 4:11pm and I just got mine back now at 5:28, however, most of the region is still without power.

THIS IS NOT A TERRORIST ATTACK!
The Niagra-Mohawk power plant was overloaded and shut down, hence the blackouts.

NYC is a mess, and EWR/LGA/JFK all have groundstops.

I live in a suberb of Cleveland, and our power just came back on. Much of the city is still out, though. Only a few 'burbs have power. Hopkins has a ground stop. Also Detroit, Toledo, Toronto, Akron, and New York are without power.

WOIO-TV in Cleveland is reporting that the City of Cleveland has 2 hours of water left. Mayor Jane Campbell is reported to have said that the city is facing a possible water crisis. Cleveland Water serves over 1.5 million people. Also Cleveland's "Rapid" System, the commuter rail system in meteo Cleveland is out of service. Also in Sandusky, Ohio (inbetween Cleveland and Toledo), the home of Cedar Point is without power with people trapped on the roller coasters. Roller coasters at Cedar Point are upwards of 300 ft. tall.

Me too. For example, I used it to power the fan that blew loads of cold air into the house tonight, after my town finally cooled down after weeks. 17,5 degrees now at 01:30 instead of something like 25 to 28.
