On an otherwise dreadful television Emmy Awards broadcast the other evening, the only redeeming moment was brought by Mr. Bill Cosby. He was introduced by Ray Romano as the recipient of the Bob Hope Lifetime achievement award. The "Cos" told a nice story about his "Fat Albert" cartoon days and his then-young son, and then proceeded into a touching tribute to the late Fred Rodgers, a giant of American children's television who passed earlier this year. Thanks Bill, for remembering someone else when the spotlight was upon you.

He is one of the few celerities that garners a bit of respect.

He's a vegitable, KROC?  Big grin

Actually, it's rare anymore that a thinks he can make people laugh without swearing every other word. The worst I've ever heard Bill Cosby say is a "damn", now and then.

Listen to some of his old albums form the late 60's through the mid 70's. Even today, it's very funny stuff.

I dont know, it might just be because I'm so young and cannot relate to what Bill Cosby talks about, but I just dont find him funny at all. That being said, he seems like a decent and good man, so he has my respect for that.

Jcs, when you become a parent, go listen to his old stuff, and then you'll see the humor. A lot of what he does his comedy on is on parenting. Again, try to find some of his old stuff from the 70's. It made me laugh back then, and it still makes me laugh today.

He's an act, alright, but not a class act!

His reputation around the Hollywood community (producers, actors, technicians, studio workers) is not that favorable. He is demanding and difficult--and apparently is not that crazy about children!. I say this because my folks are both SVP's at studios and have had employees deal with his tirades.....on many, many occasions.

Sorry to burst any bubbles....

Did he not kind of scold some chick the other night for her ebonics? He said something like, "We speak English".

Actually, I grew up on Cosby's standup records. I was always a fan.

His classic comedy about until the age of 10 he thought his name was "jesus christ" and his brother was "dammit" was priceless!

I saw him live several years ago and I don't think I ever stopped laughing!

Rgds,

Greg

When I saw him in a review of the Emmys, all I could think of was "why is he wearing sunglasses indoors at night"?

Yeah...I used to think Cosby was classy, but lately he's been acting like he's high and mighty and not worthy of other people's time. Seems like its all gone to his head. He just didn't look like he was having a good time at the Emmy's.....don't remember him cracking a smile once. Don't really have so much respect for Mr. Cosby anymore.

I dunno I agree that generally he is one of the better of the Hollywood personalities

But I did enjoy the fact that he forced NBC to move his "Cosby Show" to Sunday night, so it could go up against a new Fox series, "The Simpsons" back in 1990.

He didn't feel Bart and Homer where appropriate television.

The Simpsons trounced him.

He had the nerve to attempt to scold Wanda Sykes on National Live TV as though Fat Albert and friends spoke the Queens english!
Had an adulturous relationship that resulted in a child too as I recall!
Hypocrite!

How does that make him a hypocrit?

Lest you forget, he is a comedian, so the joke was merely that.

As for accounts of him being difficult and demanding, I suppose they were needed in order to churn out he quality product what he did for many years.

An all around good guy, but he did curse once or twice in "Himself
nothing big though. I also like Sinbad for this jokes without cursing. Nice for a rare change.

His attempted reprimand of Wanda Sykes had to do with speaking proper English.
He is a hypocrite because Fat Albert didnt exactly speak proper English!

There is a difference between teaching Ebonics and parodying getto-speek.
