My Roommate Sucks.

Admittedly, I am a relatively laid back, very non-confrontational person. I've literally had it though, so I'm going to whine about it like a little girl on a.net.

I'm so damn tired of one of my roommates. He doesn't seem to grasp the concept that two other people live in the dorm with him. Our dorm has three bedrooms (each for one of us), a living room, and a bathroom. My other roommate is equally as pissed off, but neither of us feel like dealing with it...

I don't spend much time in my room--but when I do, I'm usually either on the computer, studying, or sleeping.

Heres what this idiot does:
-Before he takes a shower (after my other roommate and I have already left for class) he pumps the heat up as high as it can go (remember this is Texas), and does not turn it back down when he leaves. When I return from class at 11, the room is about 90 degrees, and it takes about two hours for the room to cool down again.

-At the same time every day, he returns from his classes, and for some reason sees a need to spray...errr....dump air freshener all over the dorm, not just his bedroom. Our place doesnt smell at all. Not only is the air freshener cheap as hell, but it has a god awful scent that makes me want to vomit. It takes a good three hours before the smell starts to fade away.

-He doesnt quite understand how to move around without making noise. You would absolutely swear that there is a damn elephant in the next bedroom. He just stomps around his room. He slams his doors, drawers, and the toilet seat loud enough to the point where I have woken up from deep sleeps because he slams the toilet seat down.

-He likes to leave his door open and blast rap. I have no problem if the guy wants to blast music, because our walls are soundproofed pretty well, but at least have the fucking decency to shut the door. (he's currently doing this right now)

-His friends are loud and obnoxious, and he tends to bring them into his room by the tens. You can hear his friends coming down the hall to our room...no joke. They are so damn loud. One of them woke me up at 5AM by knocking on my door and then running into my roommates room, waking him up too. Again, if you want to bring your friends over...cool...I have no problem with that, but I mean, take control.

-He goes home every weekend and will still leave his alarm on at full blast. Nothing like being woken up at 7:45AM on a Saturday morning after a long night only to hear a high-frequency beep (that can make it though the wall).

Okay, my bitch is over.

America's chickens are coming home to rooooost!

Well, I had a similar situation 20 years ago with a roommate. My advice: get together with the roommate you can tolerate, then the 3 of you sit down together. List your grievances against the offending roomie. Explain to him he is sharing space (he might be an only child or only son - could explain some of his behavior).

Give him a chance to change his ways. If this approach does not work, wait until he goes home one weekend, and throw all of his shit out into the hallway or out of the window. (That's what we wound up going in my case.)

I laughed my a$$ off when I read the post, sounds like your roommate is a real idiot. You should talk with him about that, if he continues with all this stuff you should inform your renter and tell him that it is not possible to live with the guy, or you can simply beat him up, that would be the my prefered solution Big grin.

First of all... it sounds like you have really nice dorms. Imagine trying to live with this dude if you didn't have a 3-bedroom suite and you all shared one room.

Secondly... dorms suck. Unless you have, you should probably not live there again next year. Plus being more on your own will be better for you anyways.

Third... you really need to comfront your other roomate. As sad as this may sound, he sounds like he is really oblivious to the obvious and may not know what he is doing is wrong, and may not know you are your other roomie is pissed at him. I had a roomate that was kind of like that, oblivious to the obvious, and it sucked having to live with it. I'd suggest talking to your RA first, and seeing what he/she can do first to help you resolve it. Or your other option is to just suck it up and hope he improves.

My roommate sucks, literally
Signed, JC..Damn that doesn't work this time

Thats just the crap you have to deal with man. I have 3 other roommates, 1 smoke pots constantly, one is starting to smoke cigarettes in the room ( I yelled at him) and the other does not do anything. I have an entirely different schedule from these guys, for instance they stayed up all night last night playing poker, while I slept. They think its weird and give me shit about how I work out and study all day. Which is fine, because they are getting fat, and not getting good grades. They think its weird and they give me shit about how I have a girlfriend, especially since its long distance. Well lets just say I am getting laid more than them, and I haven't seen my girlfriend in almost 8 weeks. (She is coming Halloween  Big thumbs up  Big thumbs up) But that's the stuff you got to talk about with them, if something is bothering you, say something. You live there too, you should not dread going back to your room. If all else fails, get a head set plug it into your computer and rock out to some tunes and ignore the bastard.

My edit is, I should add, it looked like I cheated on my GF in my post, but for clarification purposes (she rarely reads the boards out of sheer bordem) I was proving a point that the guys who give me shit about being in a relationship are not getting any action, I having a girlfriend will be getting action soon.

You are not going to have any luck confronting your roommate...mu guess is he is the type that is loud, and has to have it his way or no way. Really confrontational type guy that has a chip that is seriously waying him down. Keep in mind you don't want to be labled either coming out of some type of altercation...but that is just my .02. Probably all wrong.

How old is this guy? Where is he from? What is his background? How did he vote in the last election? Why haven't you kicked his ass?

I've only had one roommate situation, and it made me never want a roommate ever again. My roommates and myself worked completely different schedules, they worked days and I worked nights. I always tried to be as quiet as possible out of respect, but they never seemed to do the same. Nothing like being woken up @ 6:30 in the morning by your roommates arguing (this was a once a week occurance) (my roommate had gotten married, and still wanted me to live there so that him and his wife could save up some money to buy a house). I moved out about two years ago because I became an unwitting victim in my roommate's years-long custody battle with his ex-wife. I had two choices, move out or have a judge issue an order throwing me out of the house (the guy's ex-wife is a psycho, she made false accusations about me which led to me moving out). I literally had to find a place at a moment's notice, much like how I landed there in the first place. Here's my suggestion on what to do. Like it has already been said, discuss the situation with the roommate in question. Try to solve it that way at first. If the situation remains the same, trying resolving via the R.A., that's part of the reason why they're there. Don't do something rash like throwing the guy's stuff out of the dorm room, that's childish.

LOL....kinda reminds me of my current roommate.
He's black, so I don't have a problem with that....we don't talk much just a few "sup, word up, lata" convos and that's it. This kid im rooming up with is a criminal. About a month ago, he was was court maritial for going AWOL with the Navy for 2 months. He said bye and never came back and two months later, he did. So then while waiting for the Navy to do his discharge paperworks, they set him up in a barracks, unfortunatly, it was me I had to room with. Ugh. These rooms are two man with a bathroom we have to share.

With his puffy hair, he makes a big mess in the shower and the sink with hair all over and doesn't clean it up after. No way I cannot touch the sink and to shower, I always have to wear shower shoes and lock up my soap and shampoo. Now, last weekend, he brought 4 20-packs of beer...well, he got it from is friends since he was underage. Mean 80 bottles of Budwieser in our fridge with 7 guys drinking and getting drunk while I'm trying to sleep. I did piss one of them off by telling him to get out, but I won't rat them out to the cops because they were all under 21. So instead thankfully, they went to a club and almost they have gotten arrested.

Couple days ago, my roommate found out when he's leaving for good which is Oct. 20. So I got one more week left of this BS. Oh yea, I was off this morning sleeping late, then his fricken alarm woke me up at 6:45am and he was gone. I had to turn it off. And his friends, ALWAYS pounds at my door at 2-3am, one dude works in the same building as me, is such an obnoxioux LOUD dude.

I'm ready to get me my own apartment here really soon.

k, when i first saw this thread title, I just smiled. Big grin

I feel for ya dawg, I mean I don't hate (per se) any of my suitmates, but in reality ALL of them have gotten on my nerves. Two are so oddly smart they truly have no common sense (i never understood that until now) and one of them thinks he is a reincarnation of some anime character on a show called "Yugiyo". I like anime, just not in my face all the time, but then it is his tv in our lounge, so y'know. My roomate is the other oddball, none of us in the suite can figure him out; he grew up with and AC and I can't stand cold rooms at night. Another two get so frustrated at their computers, we can hear them yelling at their machines; I have fun telling them the garbage-in garbage-out thing.  Smile

Another is ex-military, he's always hanging out with the ROTC kids next door (my former roommates) and until we hear him scream, "HEY MOTHA BITCHES", when ever he comes in, we don't see him, like he lives there. He's all good, I think he needs a bear hug.  Smile

One of my suitemates is getting married and hates it when we refer to her as his girlfriend, she's his fiance. Their just outta highschool, I wont tell him that I do not believe that they will stay together for life, I think they are a bit young. But hey, if da love lasts, let it go. I wish them da best.

Now the fairies downstrairs and upstairs are the trouble makers, these fools bounce their basketballs on da floor at night and boom their 400-watt computer stereos. The side walls are nice for this, but not the ceiling and floor. Otha than that there arent any real pricks except the professors.  Big thumbs up

But seriously you have to step to him. Tell him that he needs to get his ass together. You live with him for Buddha's sake! Why can't you walk up to him and say "hey man cut the bullshit out?" Tell the guy to chill with the simple lifestyle. Once you put the fear of Buddha in him you will all live in peace.

When I was dealt with the shittiest living situation imaginable on earth last year in my first year of college, I turned it into a game. I assisted both of my demented, annoying, and obnoxious roomates in failing nearly all of their classes. By encouraging them to not worry about that big test in math, or telling them that 2 hours of sleep is more than enough rest, the "give them just enough rope to hang themself" method worked. The first one failed out after the first semester with a GPA of .76. Now, our triple room had only two people in it! Good deal, right? No, the remaining roomate started to take after the one who was gone. He basically stopped going to classes in mid March in the spring semester, and failed every class except one, making his cumulative GPA .98.

Do not put up with your annoying roomate. It will waste your time and affect your grades if it gets out of control.

I would give him a good dose of bad attitude, and if that don't work start talking about him behind his back a lot. Finally if these things don't work try curling up in a corner of the dorm and crying for awhile. That should change things.

Like I said...I'm not one to confront people, and unfortunately my other roommate is the same way. That being said, I don't even talk to the guy, its just like a "Whats up?" kinda thing when we see each other....I've never actually had a conversation with him, The dorm itself is awesome, theres no way I'd move out...its three years old and it puts most apartments to shame. And theres no way that I'd move into the fraternity house because I know I'd get nothing done. If I do confront him, I'm not going to be mean about and say "What the fuck?" or "Are you a damn idiot?" I'll just be polite about it.

Well I vote you get right to the point, one point at a time. For example, next time he plays his rap full blast with the door wide open, simply get up, walk on over and ask him to kindly shut the door. Next time he leaves his alarm on, ask him when he gets back to kindly turn it off for future weekends. Its simple, and to the point, so it just might work...
