Chirac To Represent Germany+france In Eu Summit

in a suprising move, german chancellor schröder asked french president jaques chirac to represent both german and french interests at the eu summit on friday.
schröder and his foreign minister, legally the only possible participiants from the german government to the eu summit, have to depart early and asked chirac to also represent germany in the closing session of the summit.

i think that is just amazing and a great move for the european unity.

Actually Bob, in this case it's true. Usually Schroeder and Fischer wouldn't pass any chance to get on the international stage, but in Germany there is domestic politics waiting, a very hard and busy Friday, big decisions to be made (Hartz Concept, if anybody outside Germany knows what that means)!

I know it's only VfB but I like it!

Tbar read my post, that what it's all about, there's a crucial meeting in the German parliament to put laws on the track to liberalize the labour markets. This is crucial because it is one of Schroeder's main reform projects, and his majority in the house is rather thin...not to be there in order to watch over his coalition would be extremely dangerous for him. That's why he choses to be in Berlin, and in this case, he's probably right!
