I can think of quite many. I'm feelin kind o' mellow today, what with the delicious cold autumn weather and the rain. Total chill-out weather. I was singing the following 70's tune to myself in the shower this morning. I absolutely love it. Very cool and mellow tune, best sung with a rolled and lit joint in hand!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

ME AND YOU AND A DOG NAMED BOO
Artist: Lobo

I remember to this day
The bright red Georgia clay
And how it stuck to the tires
After the summer rain
Will power made that old car go
A woman's mind told me that so
Oh how I wish
We were back on the road again

Me and you and a dog named Boo
Travelin' and livin' off the land
Me and you and a dog named Boo
How I love being, a free man

I can still recall
The wheat fields of St. Paul
And the morning we got caught
Robbing from an old hen
Old McDonald he made us work
But then he paid us for what it was worth
Another tank of gas
And back on the road again

I'll never forget the day
We motored stately into big L.A.
The lights of the city put settlin'
Down in my brain
Though it's only been a month or so
That old car's buggin' us to go
We've gotta get away and get back on
The road again

Me and you and a dog named Boo
Travelin' and livin' off the land
Me and you and a dog named Boo
How I love being, a free man

Okay, this song aint so mellow, but I love it. I clearly recall my older sister and her teen chick pals, dancing in their bikinis to this music as it blasted from a portable radio on the beach at our summer cottage. They'd sway their long hair and totally get into this.

American Woman
By The Guess Who (A Canadian band, by the way!)

American woman,
stay away from me
American woman,
mama let me be
Don't come hare hanging around my door
I don't want to see your face no more
I got more important things to do
Than spend my time growin' old with you
Now woman, I said stay away
American woman,
listen what I say
American woman, get away from me
American woman, mama let me be
Don't come here knocking around my door
Don't want to see your shadow no more
Colored lights can hypnotize
Sparkle someone else's eyes
Now woman, I said get away
American woman, listen what I say
American woman, I said get way
American woman, listen what I say
Don't come here hanging around my door
Don't want to see your face no more
I don't need your war machines
I don't need your ghetto scenes
Colored lights can hypnotize
Sparkle someone else's eyes
Now woman, get away from me
American woman, mama let me be
Go, gotta get away, gotta get away,
now go go go
I'm gonna leave you, woman
Gotta leave you, woman
Bye bye, bye bye Bye bye, bye bye
You're no good for me
I'm no good for you
Gonna look at you right in the eye
Tell you what I'm gonna do
You know I'm gonna leave
You know I'm gonna go
You know I'm gonna leave
You know I'm gonna go, woman
I'm gonna leave you, woman
Goodbye, American woman
Goodbye American chick

Classic Black Sabbath, from the Paranoid album, 1971

Iron Man

Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all,
Or if he moves will he fall?
Is he alive or dead?
Has he thoughts within his head?
We'll just pass him there
why should we even care?

He was turned to steel
in the great magnetic field
When he travelled time
for the future of mankind

Nobody wants him
He just stares at the world
Planning his vengeance
that he will soon unfurl

Now the time is here
for Iron Man to spread fear
Vengeance from the grave
Kills the people he once saved

Nobody wants him
They just turn their heads
Nobody helps him
Now he has his revenge

Heavy boots of lead
fills his victims full of dread
Running as fast as they can
Iron Man lives again!

Rgds,

Greg

I also don't really want to write down lyrics, but I'd nominate works by Elvis, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, and the Bee Gees for the 1970s. And a few other select groups that might have had one or two hit songs. There were definitely some good ones....even some Disco was good in limited quantities.  Smile

Just for KROC........

War Pigs (Paranoid, 1971)

Generals gathered in their masses
just like witches at black masses
evil minds that plot destruction
sorcerers of death's construction
in the fields the bodies burning as the war machine keeps turning
death and hatred to mankind
poisoning their brainwashed minds... Oh lord yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away
they only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor

Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait 'till their judgment day comes, yeah!

Now in darkness, world stops turning
as the war machine keeps burning
No more war pigs of the power
Hand of god has struck the hour
Day of judgment, god is calling on their knees, the war pigs crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings

Rgds,

Greg

"I don't want to get the lyrics but I like, Steppen Wolf-Magic Carpet Ride."

Oh yeah! Well, buddy, sorry, but here are the lyrics for it anyway! Love that tune.

MAGIC CARPET RIDE
Steppenwolf

I like to dream, yes I do
Right between the sound machine
On a cloud of sound I drift in the night
Every place she goes is right
Flies far, flies near
To the stars away from here

Well, you don't know what
We can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride

Well, you don't know what
We can find
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free

CHORUS
Close your eyes girl
Look inside girl
Let the sound take you away

Last night I found Aladdin's lamp
So I wished that I could stay
But before the thing could answer me
Someone came and took the lamp away

I looked
Around
A lousy candle's all I found

Well, you don't know what
We can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride

Well, you don't know what
We can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free

CHORUS

CRANK IT UP AND BLAST IT, MAN!!!

*sigh* They don't write em like this anymore. Spare me the MTV crap and the artists that perform them.

"Knights in White Satin" - The Moody Blues

Nights in white satin, never reaching the end
Letters I've written, never meaning to send
Beauty I'd always missed, with these eyes before
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore
'Cause I love you, yes I love you, oh, how I love you

Gazing at people, some hand in hand
Just what I'm going through they can't understand
Some try to tell me, thoughts they cannot defend
Just what you want to be, you will be in the end
And I love you, yes I love you
Oh, how I love you, oh, how I love you

Nights in white satin, never reaching the end
Letters I've written, never meaning to send
Beauty I'd always missed, with these eyes before
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore
'Cause I love you, yes I love you
Oh, how I love you, oh, how I love you

'Cause I love you, yes I love you
Oh, how I love you, oh, how I love you

(spoken)
Breathe deep in the gathering gloom
Watch lights fade from every room
Bedsitter people look back and lament
Another day's useless energy's spent
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one
Lonely man cries for love and has none
New mother picks up and suckles her sun
Senior citizens wish they were young
Cold-hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colors from our sight
Red is grey and yellow white
And we decide which is right
And which is an illusion?

"Take a deep, deep drag........and exhale".

It's sittin in my computer's CD player here at work as we speak. One of my favorite songs growing up:

Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Get Down"

Told you once before
And i won't tell you no more
Get down, get down, get down
You're a bad dog baby
But i still want you 'round

You give me the creeps
When you jump on your feet
So get down, get down, get down
Keep your hands to yourself
I'm strictly out of bounds

Once upon a time i drank a little wine
Was as happy as could be, happy as could be
Now i'm just like a cat on a hot tin roof
Baby what do you think you're doin' to me

Told you once before
And i won't tell you no more
So get down, get down, get down
You're a bad dog baby
But i still want you 'round around
I still want you around
Aye aye aye

I don't give a damn
And i'd like you if you can to
Get down, get down, get down
You're bad dog baby
But i still want you 'round

Once upon a time i drank a little wine
Was as happy as could be, happy as could be
Now i'm just like a cat on a hot tin roof
Baby what do you think you're doin' to me

Told you once before
And i won't tell you no more
So get down, get down, get down
You're a bad dog baby
But i still want you 'round around

Yeah Tom, I like that one very much, too.

This one, I would play over and over on my record player. Catchy tune,
and very California late 60's/early 70's!

"Free Electric Band"
Albert Hammond

My father is a doctor, he's a familiy man
My mother works for charity whenever she can
They're both good clean Americans who abide by the law
They both stick up for liberty and they both support the war.

My happiness was paid for when they laid their money down
For summers in a summercamp and winters in the town
My future in the system was talked about and planned
But I gave it up for music and the Free Electric Band.

I went to school in handwashed shirts with neatly oiled hair
And the school was big and newly built and filled with light and air
And the teacher taught us values that we had to learn to keep
And they clipped the ear of many idle kid who went to sleep.

Till my father organised for me a college in the east
But I went to California for the sunshine and the beach
My parents and my lecturers could never understand
Why I gave it up for music and the Free electric band.

Well they used to sit and speculated upon their son's career
A lawyer or a docter or a civil engineer
Just give me bread and water, put a guitar in my hand
'Cos all I need is music and the Free Electric Band.

My father sent me money and I spent it pretty fast
On a girl I met in Berkley in a social science class
Yes and we learned about her body but her mind we did not know
Until deep routed attitudes and morals began to show

She wanted to get married even though she never said
And I knew her well enough by now to see inside her head
She'd settle for suburbia and a little patch of land
So I gave her up for music and the Free Electric Band.
Oooh the Free Electric Band.

shaladah badup dup dee dee dee with Free Electric Band.
shaladah badup dup dee dee dee with Free Electric Band.
shaladah badup dup dee dee dee with Free Electric Band.
shaladah badup dup dee dee dee with Free Electric Band.
shaladah badup dup dee dee dee with Free Electric Band.
