I am planning a 2-week spring break trip to europe with some of my friends. We want to spent some time skiing and touring probably 2 but maybe 3 destinations. I am the only one that is really into avition, so spotting at FRA and AMS for a day are out of the question. My dad went to ZRH and skied there, but I am wondering if Turino would be a good choice with the Olympics coming. any advice would be appreciated (thanks in advance).

Turino might be pretty nice. Since you are in Italy, I would definitely recommend a trip to Rome/Naples/Sorrento (all within a couple hour train rides of each other) and Florence or Milan.

What's wrong with AMS, there is also an interesting city nearby your friends can visit. You stay at the airport and your mates at the coffee shop! Big grin

FOr skiing, Slovenia can be interesting destination too. (And much cheaper than Austria or Switzerland too)

Don't forget France, with Pyrenees, Alps, Jura and Vosges.

Yes CO2BGR, I can tell you Turin (or Torino, if you like) is what you are looking for to spend few days skiing and touring around. Many many people every year choose my city for their winter and spring breaks (most of them are from France, Uk, Scandinavia, Germany and Israel). From Turin ,you can reach the great mountains of "Val di Susa" (Susa Valley, one hour by car or train), or "Valle d'Aosta" (one hour too, with Monte Cervino and Monte Bianco mountains).
Then, you can visit the city of Turin with its historical monuments, and, if you like great food and marvelous wines, take a tour of "Le Langhe" (less than one hour from Turin), a countryside with its very evocative hills and vineyards.
I'm sure you will enjoy your stay!

In addition to the good advice above, here are some destinations (with photos) taken from my post in another thread. Europe is a fascinating place, and this is just a tiny sampling of what's out there, but it's a starting point:

Amsterdam, the Netherlands:

Nice, France is nice. Its on the ocean, and Monaco is near there too, another fun place to go. Rome is definitley my fav place in Europe, so that could be one. The Greek Islands are fantastic, and the women are great there too. Im not into skiing, but Switzerland is really expensive, I wouldnt go there. Northern Italy has good skiing.

Thanks everyone for your advice. Right now I'm considering going into Birmingham, England for a couple days then going skiing for 4 to 5 days then posssibly going somewere else, either FRA, AMS, MUC or PRG. Slovenia sounds like a great place to ski and it would be cheaper, but they have their hearts set on Italy so I will have to wait and see.

go to Munich. If I had to choose a city to live, Munich would be one of my three options...the others would be London and NYC.
Munich is a great city. Powerful and modern, yet very old german looking.

Well, Slovenia is small and borders Italy, so you could do BOTH.  Smile Many people stay in Kranjska Gora (where my pictures showing the Alps are from) and ski across the border in Italy and Austria -- and in Kranjska Gora itself, of course. You'll find more info at http://www.kranjska-gora.si/index-e.html.

However, the capital, Ljubljana, is especially nice in the winter. You'll have good access to both ski slopes and Italy, along with the advantage of staying in a pleasant and vibrant Central European city. Lots of info at http://www.ljubljana-tourism.si/index.cgi?set_lang=us.
