Last night I went to a showing at a movie theater of the new RUSH DVD/CD concert in Rio de Janeiro.
It was the bands first concert in Brazil in there entire 30 year career.
They performed in front more that 67,000 fans!
The show looked more like a fútbol game than a rock concert. Lot's of Brazilian and Canadian flags as well as a lot of eye candy in the crowd.  Big grin

I should have spend the $1300 for a trip to Rio last November for the show. I've never seen so many people captivated and electrified to songs live YYZ, Tom Sawyer, Working Man and many others.

Go out and get this DVD at a store near you.  Smokin cool

I might give it a try, although I do not like them that much. Hope they did a better job than Iron Maiden whose Rock In Rio DVD sucks bigtime production wise.

I have been waiting for this release, although here in Houston there were not cinemas listed as doing the promo showings, so I needed to wait for the DVD. I went to Rock in Rio in 2001, and it is a madhouse of a city, and a mix of Rush and Rio is sure to please.

I am hoping that the live mix is better than Different stages, as I found it to be very hollow where as Show of hands (which I finally have on dvd) and Exit stage left had a much more balanced sound. I have a nice boot of them called Mirrors which is excellent also.

I have boots or live recordings from every tour starting in 1974.
Exist Stage Left sounds kind of mudding and A Show of Hands sounds too trebley. I still like the All The Worlds A Stage recording the best as far as the legal live recordings.
The best sounding boot I have is St. Louis 1980 from the Permanent Waves tour.
I have many others I can list later on.

I wish I could have been in Rio for this show.

While i have an abundance of boots by various artists, I only have the one boot of Rush which is a 2cd called Mirrors. It is a hold your fire tour boot, perfect quality was on the Oxygen label which is reknowned for its excellent. What other bands do you like ?

Superfly,

I have the Iron Maiden Live in Rio CD/DVD, it is outstanding. I will have to pick this one up also!

The fans down there are incredible! Not sure about RUSH, but they knew everyword to every Iron Maiden song!

Rgds,

Greg

EGGD:
His drum solo is over the top on this video.

777fan:
I saw that Iron Maiden Rio 4LP set at the record store once. It was $50.00 (US).
I lost interest in them after No Prayer For The Dying (1990). I did see them at Long Beach Area on that tour.

Artsyman:
That only other artist that I want boots of is STYX (pre-1983)

Chicago (pre-1982)

Gino Vannelli and era.

Superfly,

Their just released "Dance of Death" is pretty good, it matches much of their earlier work as far as edginess and guitar work.

Greg

777, get the bootlegs from the net. The audio quality is better and you don't get all those annoying edits and overdubs. The version that hit the stores was a disgrace to the Brazilian fans, in reality they sang more than Bruce but he was later edited into the songs in parts that in reality he did not sing.

And while we're generally speaking of bootlegs, hopefully next week I will get a recording of the Springsteen concert that I actually went to. I will ask the same guy about the Rush ones.

Stratofish,

I fully agree with you and will have to look for bootlegs. You can definitely tell that they are out-singing him, even on the store version. Especially songs like 2 minutes to midnight, the trooper, number of the beast.....etc!

Greg

777: "2 Minutes To Midnight" is actually the only unedited song on the whole thing.
And the new "Dance of Death" CD is mediocre if you ask me. Bring back Martin Birch! They'll be coming to my town next month, it will be the first Maiden tour I will miss since 1995, 53 EUR (55$ US) for that crap, not with me. If you can get hold of it in the US go get the "Maiden England" video, a masterpiece of concert videos showing the band on it's peak.

But let's not further highjack Superfly's Rush thread. I'm actually listening to them right now (after a loooong time - old tape) and they actually start growing on me (if there weren't the singer's voice).

Superfly: You mean the Long Beach Arena gig from the "No Prayer..." tour? I have the video of the gig at Long Beach from the Powerslave tour.

You were also the one who saw Pink Floyd at the Rose Bowl in '94, right? Damn I sure did miss out milestones of rock history.
But, I was at the Iron Maiden concert that had to be shortened because Janick Gers fell off the stage while playing the solo in "Number Of the Beast" and had to be taken to hospital with head injuries. (no real milestone actually...)  Big grin
I am through with my old Rush tape, no idea which album it is though. Damn it's almost 1am....

2 minutes to midnight is probably the best track on that live CD. Ironic that it is the only unedited one!

I guess I like "Dance of Death" as it beats the other crap that they have put out.

I have not seen them live since the Number of the Beast tour in the 80s, yes, I am showing my age!

Apologies to Superfly for throwing some Iron Maiden into his Rush thread!

Greg
