Well as the topic states I pretty much quit my job. I know its nothing to be proud of but I was very unhappy there and the management sucked big time. When I quit I just walked out during my shift. Here is what happened. Ok I was scheduled to work 3-9pm, they asked me to work til 10pm cause they never schedule enough cashier to work. I was more than happy to. Anyhow at 6pm there were 2 cashiers (me and my friend) that were the only ones til close. Anyhow the lines were getting really ridiculous so I called a manager and told them they needed to open another register, and I was told "there is no other cashiers here so you are going to have to deal with it" that pretty much pissed me off but I kept my cool. Well there are customers non-stop from 6-8:30 and the debit machines arent working. This lady gets $200 worth of stuff and the debit doesnt work, I go call a manager to void it all out and he said "you do it" I replied "she has $200 worth of stuff" and he then said "fine, I will come down in alittle bit" in a really rude tone. I just snapped right then and there (cause there were 2 managers sitting at the customer service desk doing absolutely nothing). I went to my register, cashed out the ladies stuff, slammed the register and said as loud as I could (in front of lots of customers) "fuck this shit I quit" I ripped my smock off, threw it on the floor by the buggies and walked out. I never felt better in my life. Oh yeah the managers had this oh hell look on there face when they saw me throw my smock down and walk out. This happened on monday, one of the managers called me on tuesday practically begging me to come back, I just said to her "mail me my last paycheck". I didnt walk out cause of just the things that happened that day, I walked out because of the combination of things that had happened since I started working there, I didnt have a problem with the customers and I really liked the job its just that management just ruined the whole thing and made me unhappy. I know this probably wasnt the best thing to do but they really deserved it, bad management really sucks. I also have a job interview at Shoneys on Fri. for a waiter position. Thanks for listening.

Good luck with the jobhunt.

But as tourist, I always liked K-Mart. They generally had some good offers.

Nice job Adam.....it's to bad this is the type of action you had to take. Why do you think they begged for you to come back? Could it be that enough of a commotion was created that someone in middle management was going to have to answer to someone higher up over the incident....if you were back on the job maybe things could be smoothed out? Don't go back. What did your friend that was working the other line think? I'd love to hear his story of what happened after you left......

I would think if you can handle being a K-mart cashier, then waiting at Shoneys should be a snap....and you should make better money with tips. I always tip 20% and more if they do a good job....guess I'm a big tipper.

You need to change your profile now, though.....

Not that is means anything but you just became the first person on my respected list.....

AWESOME! Good job! As an ex-cashier at Fred Meyer, I must say that all retail positions like that seem to only have complete morons as managers.

Fred Meyer was a cool store-the one in SLC that I went to at least...it was like a one floor department store with a grocery store...they supplied me with the food for Chocolatefest 2000...

good job! I would have loved to see the look of those managers. Kmart always sucked anyway. Walmart and Target are much better.

Adam84-

Good for you. I am a former K-Mart employee as well. I worked there for 11 months and cashiering there pretty much sucks. Of course this was back in 1997 when I quit. I actually did give a 2-week notice (I'll bet I'm the only high-school aged to give a 2-week notice at that K-mart, if not I was the last) and when I told them I was going to quit when closing one night I offered to come in the next morning and meet with one of the managers. They accepted the offer and I met with the HR lady and one of the managers (303 I think) and told them all about why I was going to quit. Mainly it was because I was getting $5.05/hour and the new employees were starting at $5.00--they were holding out for the minimum wage increase the bastards. And also because I was still at the damn checkouts after all the time. And a bunch of other little things. And when I went in to get my last check, I got an exit interview which was on a form.

**So, along the lines of what DE727UPS said, see if you can go in and fill out the exit interview form--and really fuck over your former managers if you're up to it.

The funny part is the job I got right when I quit that one really really sucked (retail remodeling) and after three weeks with asshole supervisors, I went out on my lunch break with one of my co-workers and we decided not to go back! But I quit that one on a Monday and started the next one that Friday for even less work and even more $$$. So it worked out in the end.

Good luck in your job search.
