(And the thing tells me my topic isn't specific enough!) Anywho - I'm doing my first ever professional-quality recording today in a sound studio in the basement of UIC in Chicago! The songs are all original, which makes me even more nervous 'cause it's not just my voice the record labels have to judge - it's my lyrics, music, etc., too... keep y'r fingers crossed for me! I am nervous... I've only done two live performances before... got a standing ovation... that's a good sign... well, keep your fingers crossed...

What kind of equipment are you using?
Tascam 4 or 8 track porta-studio?
Or maybe a Tascam 32 1/4" 2 track master deck?
Or have you gone all digital?

Hey all!
Thanks for the support! Talk about nervous...
Anyway - it went wonderfully! I had two hours, but re-takes on a variety of songs and such, I couldn't get two hours worth of songs in.
I think, however, that 12 entirely original songs is pretty good! The recording was done DAT (Digital Audio Tape) and is being cut as I write this. On Monday they will transfer it to 5 audio cassettes (analog), four of which I'll be sending to record labels. I'll get the DAT and the remaining tape. I hope that when the record labels read in my letter that the 12 songs are less than half of the 25 I have in the 'album' I've put together, along with 3 "orchestral" (piano improvisation) pieces, they'll let me do a live audition. At 28 tracks, the album (entitled "It's Okay") would have to be 2 CDs, which would be a good debut, I think...
Here's some stuff on what I recorded:

The music isn't really any genre that I know of having a name. It's nothing that most modern teens like, it's halfway between folk and country with a more modern twist (think "Elton John Denver"). I do piano and poetry and put the two together. Most of the songs aren't ballads, but they're only slightly faster.
It's Okay - The "title track" is 7:30 long. Refrain goes:

It's okay
It's alright
As long as we have faith
We'll win the good fight
It's okay
It's alrigt

Porcelain Dream - Much slower and lower, very peaceful.
Come Flower Petals - This is the one I did live at church, very 'liturgical'...
Come lone and known
Come feeble and famed
Come loved and lost
Life hath no cost
(refrain)Come flower petals
Even if your rose has turned brown
Come leaves of autumn
Even if you've fallen to the ground

The Best - This one I'll be doing at my school's V-Show this April (or May, they haven't decided yet). It's very very light and John Denvery...

The smell of baking bread
The warmth of your head
On my chest
...it's the best

Walking in the rain
Holding you when you're holding on to pain

Prayer - This is far more Elton John than John Denver, really rockin' on the piana' (but the lyrics are Denverish)...
I pray that we leave the whales alone
I pray that we let the buffalo roam
I pray that we give the homeless homes
I pray that we be free
I pray that we let the trees grow tall
I pray that we let the waterfalls fall
I pray that we all hear nature's call
I pray that we be free
I pray that we let the lizards lie
I pray that we don't blacken up the sky
I pray that the human race is a tie
I pray that we be free

and so on...

Like a Bird - Raw inspirationalism.
I Will - More inspiring stuff, don't let 'em getcha' down, etc.
Peaceful/Purple - This is one of those loopy songs with two sides - the first two verses go "Come in dear, come in out of the rain," etc., and end with "hold on to me" but the last one goes "Please help me, please help me live," etc., and ends with "hold on to me" but that time it means it the other way around.
Peace is a River - Another power song.
Peace is a river
Float on down
There may be rocks
But water flows around

Beautiful Kind - I have noooo idea what this one is about.

(I left two out, I don't know which two but whatever... it's late, I'm tired...)

Wowser... I hope things keep going well!
