A great show, one that was a slow burner when first shown on BBC2 in 2001.
Many don't take to humour being based on pure embarrassment and cringing, but it's certainly a one off, full of characters that are recognizable.
A producer for a US Network thought he could rework it as a romantic comedy based of two of the cast, Tim and Dawn, which totally misses the point of them in the story, anyway if you want that just continue to re-make existing shows.

Producers always try to 'Americanize' British sitcoms. They shouldn't bother. British humor plays just fine over here, as demonstrated by Benny Hill, Monty Python, The Full Monty and tv broadcasts of Parliament.
