I'm sure that many of you have seen the commercials for this organization especially here in the US, but I'm wondering what your thoughts are and if you have contributed to this organization. The commercials are quite compelling and I have thought about giving something myself but I'm not too sure yet. I have been to enough countries around the world to see first hand that what they show really is to be the truth. I personally have seen 4 year olds digging through the burning trash on the side of the road and their parents washing clothes and bathing in polluted rivers. I have also seen the train tracks running run down narrow alleys with what can be called houses built on each side with children playing in the tracks. Do any of you contribute to this fund and what are your thoughts? Is this a good charity to give to?

I can't answer your question specifically, Notdownlocked, but I'd like to commend you on your global view. Far too many of us in "developed" countries have no idea what poverty looks like. The extent of most people's forays into the third world consists of vacations to places like Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. If more people saw the faces of poverty, we'd probably find better ways of solving the Mexican immigration problem, for example.
For some anet posters, the world stops at the wall of their dorm room or the screen of their computer. And yet many of these same people are the quickest to condemn those from developing countries that are trying to improve their lives and help their families.

I work for the company that takes the phone orders for that particular charity. Judging by the other products and services we offer I would have to say its probably something of a scam. Birds of a feather and all. I would send my money to a more respected charity that someone actually knows.
