The Flu Has Arrived In North America

This is the time of the year when the flu arrives. And this year, again, the flu has proven to be on time, sort of.

The main difference this year is that the flu is the deadliest type, 100 time deadlier than last year. No joke.

The mortality rate associated with the "ordinary" flu is around 0.1%. This year it is likely to be around 10%. The last episode of such a deadly flu epidemic was in 1977.

It's not too late to get your anti-flu shot. You'll be protected - although not 100%. Are you sure you want to catch a virus that has a 10% risk of fatality?

you got any stock in any influenza-vaccine company? but jokes aside, the best prevention against that stuff is daily sports. i kind of like how nature sorts out those who eat burgers all day and sit on their couch smoking. after all its their choice to live not healthy. they cant expect to pull through diseases as easily.

Well lets look at what is in that flu vaccine everybody is so hell bent on getting

Formaldahyde....aka embalming fluid
Thimersol....which is made from Murcury.....Remember the mad hatter from Alice in Wonderland. There also may be strands of RNA and DNA that come over from the chicken embryo's the vaccine comes from. Also there have been instances where Chicken Viruses have survived the manufacturing and quality control processes and been found in flu vaccines.

There have allready been cases where disease has been tranfered or caused by the Flu vaccine. A vaccine born Swine flu virus caused 565 cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome paralysis in 1976. Meningoencephalitis has also been linked to the flu vaccine.

There is also some debate on the effectiveness of the vaccine. Consider that it only vaccinates against three out of the hundreds of strains, and that those strains that are in the vaccine are chosen half a year prior to the flu season, when scientits can only guess what strains will be present.

Sorry don't have great links, but look at any of these articles.

L-188,

Your post only goes to show that you should never put scientific articles in the hands of someone who can't handle them.

You've got to look at the big picture here. The anti-flu vaccine has a proven efficiency of 70%. In the remaining 30%, it is demonstrated that it gives a certain amount of protection nonetheless. Each year, the vaccine is fabricated according to the expected type of flu virus that will emerge. This is based on the expertise of a WHO led network of observers, world-wide. And this year's vaccine offers a protection against the deadly type that has emerged. So, good job WHO.

There are occasional secondary effects, indeed. But the primary effects outweigh the occasional secondary effects by a ratio so big it's not even funny.

Zak,

Daily sport is good. But the flu is a virus induced condition, not a physiological one that could be prevented by physical activities. Sport does not protect you against the flu. Unfortunately.

Qb001, can you provide a link that states that the specific strain that is causeing this years problems, is one of the three that made it into the vaccine.

I was under the impression that it wasn't, so any protection the shot will provide will be marginal at best.

a body in good shape and health with a good nutrition will kill off a flu in a few days of time without any medication. best medicine is a healthy sleep and good food that helps the body to focus all energy on killing of the virus.
so yeah it doesnt protect against getting it, but it kills it within a few days time without any medicine helping whilst the couch potatoe needs a ton of medicine and is knocked out a week with another week recovering from the stress the disease caused, and ends up with a weakened immune system due to side effects of medication rather then a strenghtened immune system you normally have after a not too hard disease.

QB001,

And don't take any malaria shots when you go to Africa. Its full of (gasp) chemicals!

And those Diptheria, Menningitis, Polio and Tetanus shots they give you? Avoid them like the Plague! They are full of chemicals too!

 Smile

If you're not very young or not very old, otherwise healthy and don't come in regular contact with those who are at high risk of dying due to an infection like flu, then by all means L-188 don't feel as though you need to take flu shots. But don't discourage others that meet this criteria.

Oh...and don't drink wine or beer. They have chemicals in them too!

 Smile

L-188,

I don't have a link under hand. The information I relay comes from my wife (a doctor) who got it from a micro-biology conference on SARS and influenza she attended this week.

Zak,

Sorry pal. But being in the best of shape doesn't "kill" the flu virus. It will be of some help to fight its effects. But it's really marginal. The difference between the resistance I, someone moderately in shape, can provide (without the vaccine) and, say, a top notch athlete, is really marginal.

The virus is mostly deadly for young children and older people. But it's a good thing to get the vaccine for everyone.

Nope, Zak is right.

Healthier bodies are more able to fight off infections....NATURALLY!!!!

Qb001,

I just think that people should not blindly follow doctors who are constantly barraged by pharmaceutical companies to do push their products.

I don't think that people should blindly follow their doctors advice, and should actually know what they are getting injected with. And it does look like the medical community is keeping the risks associated with these vaccines under wraps.

If the bennies outweigh the risks, then do it. A growing body of evidence indicates that with the flu shot, that essential risk/benefit analogy, does not equal to the shot being worth it.

People put too much faith in vaccines, medicines and their doctors who push them.

Washing your hands after you take a piss has prevented more infections and illnesses then vaccinations ever will.

Well it is now comming out that even when they where picking the three strains to actually protect against, there where critics of the choice this year.
