The man who created the ROTH IRA has dies.

Former US Senator William V. Roth Jr passed away the other day at 82.

The Republican Senator was a tireless champion of smaller government and tax cuts. In addition to the Roth IRA, which is a tax free retirement savings account program, he was also a co-sponser with Jack Kemp on the 1981 tax cut package that made the Reagon economy of the 1980's possible.

He was also a critic of the Internal Revenue Service, authoring a book about the agency titled, "The Power to Destroy" in 1999.

He was also a critic of wasteful government spending, being the person who discoved the now infamous $640 toilet seat .

We need more republicans that think the way that he did elected.

I agree 100%!

William Roth was a decent Republican that I could respect. It's a shame there aren't more William Roth's in the GOP.

Job well done Senator Roth, R.I.P.

So why was he defeated in 2000?

Personally, I had no bitterness towards him the way I have for some other GOP.

Listen Betty, don't start up with your 'White Zone' s*** again.

727LOVER:
Deleware voters saw that he was getting old. He passed out once at a campaign rally on television. That didn't help his campaign.
Plus 2000 was a Democratic year in which Democrats knocked off 5 incumbent Republican Senators. Then Gov. Thomas Carper won on the Gore/Leibermann coattails. Gore won Deleware as well as the Democrats gaining that Senate seat and keeping the Governors mansion in Dover.

William Roth was still very popular when he lost but the people felt that it was time for him to retire. He was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1970.

Yeah it was the health issues.

That passing out at the Campaign Rally was the second time he did that that year.

Wow, me and Boeing4ever agree on something political.  Wow!

I better check my pulse.

I watched the Paul Simon funeral on Cspan this weekend.
I hated to see Simon and Roth go in the same week.
Both gentleman were independent voices withing there parties and had respect on both sides of the alse.
