How do you celebrate your Christmas or Chanukah?
In what cultural beliefs have you been raised? I've read that in certain cultures, Santa Claus is a troll or an gnome, or a bad guy. Its interesting how cultures treat the Kris Kringle factor.
here is our tradition:
Our family is mostly in NY. We all go to a certain familiy member's house at 11 PM on Christmas eve. about 40 -60 people show up. Then we wait for midnight.
At the stroke of 12, someone starts to sing a song in french, I think it's Noel, if I am not mistaken. Then most of the drunken ones chime in what sounds like dogs yelping a song in french, which in english, sounds like
"dah dah dah, that Christ was born. Noel! NOEELLLLL"
Then we eat, drink and party for 20 minutes whilst the homeowner dresses as santa and pulls gifts under the tree, calling everyone's names for them to get their gifts. this lasts until 3 AM go, when we go home, sleep late then open gifts in the AM.
What doe's your family do?

Well, every Christmas morning we wake up and open gifts and have a special breakfast. Then around 3 PM, we always have my dads side of the family over and the party goes on usually to about midnight. I have lots of fun every year.

As descendent of italians, my family is very loud, affective, and are always gettin together...
On Dec24th, we get all together in my house (it's the biggest house of all members of the family, so, it's easier to put everybody here), and we stay talking, cooking... About 11pm, we are dressed up, and the Santa Claus arrives, and distribute present for everybody (specially to the children). The adults also change presents. Than, it's about midnight, and we all pray and have a special dinner. It goes all night long.
Than, on Dec25th, there's Christmas Lunch. About 9am my big family comes again to my house, and every Christmas is really hot (we're in summer here in Brazil) and we stay swimming, playing volley... We have a "secret-friend" game also, which is tradition here. Later, we pray and eat again. We stay at the pool the whole afternoon. My family leaves my house only about 8pm.
It's not only in Christmas that the WHOLE family get together, we are used to be together always. But in Christmas is different, we are celebrating Jesus birth.
It's everything very nice: the celebration, the party, the food, the family together... I have a lot of fun!

Classic line.
In just over 48 hours I'll be spending my first Christmas day with any blood relative in 27 years. I hope for just a bit of that yelping.
Merry Christmas all.
What is it with all the "is there a possibilty airline X will.." threads? The answer it'll is possible.

i had planned to do mt blanc this year on xmas since its one of the few days where it isnt overrun with people, but due to some friends being in town the first time in half a decade i guess i will go meet them.
regarding "celebrations" not much. i will just go say hi to the rest of my family (they all enjoy xmas, i however am out of the loop for a while now cause i want nothing to do with it).
my family usually meets in a not so religious but more get together way, but i usually just say hi and go do whatever i want to when im in town.

In Lithuania we are eating a big supper consisting out of at least 12 foods (but no meat except fish) in December 24th. Before that supper we pray and eat food like communion vessels, which we share (each person near the table gets one piece and partitions it to smaller pieces and gives those smaller peaces to all other people eating). People are not eating anything before that supper in this day.
Christmas is already a more happy day. Some people goes to church, children finds presents which Santa had put for them under a Christmas tree (where Santa always puts presents in Lithuania, not in socks), etc.

This evening I will go to church with my parents and sister, then we will go to my grandparents house. My cousins are there and we have a very delicious dinner. Then we exchange gifts with everyone. Christmas morning we get up and have breakfast then open the gift from my parents, and have a relaxful day.

Going to Church this evening, I sing and play the organ (no, not that organ ) for the midnight mass.
Afterwards, we have a small buffet with the community after the mass, but I have to drive to my familly (about 600 km from my Elbonian home), in order to be with them for Christmas lunch.
