I read somewhere that a metrosexual refers to an urban male who pays close attention to his appearance and loves shopping and clothes, an urban male that has the characteristics typically associated with a gay male, but is usually straight. David Beckham is an example of a metrosexual.

Basically put, and this will probably be debated, it is a term generally applied to a new hybrid male lifestyle where an eye for the finer things in life, i.e. calorie counting, pedicures, nail polish, etc., does not negate masculinity and is not considered gay. It has nothing to do with sexual orientation or sexual practices.

I thought it turned out that most "metrosexuals" just turned out to be plain old (rather boring) homosexuals. I read in Men's Health that the term was coined way back in 1994, and the "movement" is considered to be a bust, I think.
Here in NY, at least, there has definitely been a bit of a metrosexual boom in the past few years. The number of legitimately straight guys who are comfortable going to get a manicure, using eye cream, and/or practicing yoga, for example, has soared. So, I would disagree strongly with MD-90, at least as far as urban areas are concerned--just look at the popularity of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" if you need proof.

A word used to describe those pussies who's balls havent dropped and are yet to come out o the closet yet.
I know thats harsh but i dont care. I would have loved to live back in the 1930's where the was no TV no mobile phones and none of this boring new age shit. it was also a time where a bloke was a bloke if a bloke didnt give a firm handshake you could safely assume he was gay. Now there is so much excuses for everything and there is always something "new and improved". This isnt living anymore its dieing with style.

Some bad news for you: This is the 21st century, and unfortunately society has been so liberalised that even people like you are allowed to go out in public, use computers, and occasionally even hold responsible positions.

a Metrosexual is a MARKETING term used by cosmetic, medical, etc..industries to sell gullable men products they have been hoisting on our sisters for years. After they trapped all the poor girls in a cycle of consumerism and body modification naturally men were next..here come the metrosexuals.
If a guy calls himself metrosexual he is either a sucker or gay.
my 2 cents.

there is a great south park episode on metrosexuality, you should check it out.
i also think it is like alek says, pure marketing. these days any not 100% average behaviour gets a name so it can be marketed better. nothing more nothing less.
