Just heard it on the news : French government has just passed a bill making mandatory two things for the netwrok operators :

1st : bill phone calls per seconds - yes there are still some subscriptions billed per minutes !

2nd, and most important : make the 0800 number free. They were billed to the subscriber till now, but this will soon end.

I told that to my boss, he did not seem very enthousiastic.
I wonder why.

707Cmf,

As far as I know, mobile phone calls ars still paid by prepaid cards or by "packs" (forfaits).

So we are still not billed by seconds, but by seconds in a pack, where you lose one day or another what you don't consume (in other words you are obliged to consume a certain amount).

=> C'est la grosse arnaque.

Sebolino,

When you buy a 2 hour pack, or a 4 hour pack, you agree with the seller that what you don't use in two months will be lost. It is the same as when you buy a pack of sweets that you don't eat and let those pass their expiration date. No arnaque in there.

However, having one minute removed from your pack when you have made a call just for ten seconds, now, that was an arnaque.

It's a full "arnaque".

When you make a phone call from your residential phone you pay. When you don't call, you don't pay.
All you have to do is to pay a certain amount to own the line (13 Euros/month).

Now with mobile phones, if you call you pay, if you don't call you pay. On the other hand, you don't pay to have the line. But considering the high price of the mobile second, it's still a big ass gang bang.

Well, if you don't mind, considering te amount of calls I make using the "mandatory" operator, I find this to be somehow excessive.

As for the mobile pack, it is always possible to take a mobile line without a pack (I am not speaking of the prepaid one). Remember, a few years back, that was the only way to have one.

I'm not taking side with mobile phones operators, (considering my job...), I'm just pointing out that what you call an arnaque is not an arnaque. Nobody forces you to buy a 8 hour pack, or even a 45 minutes pack, and just spend 10 minutes of it.

It wouldn't be an arnaque if you could use your units on a long period of time.

Obliging you to use them in the 2 months following the buy is indeed a smart way to make you consume and PAY.

But that hurts nearly nobody's mind in our over-consuming socities (see http://fr.news.yahoo.com/040109/202/3l0yj.html )
