Is there any New York Islander fans out there that can tell me about the current team? I know some of you might say just look in the paper, but I have been too busy to look. Anyway since I now live here in Denver, it is hard to see any of their games unlike I used to when I lived in New York.

I'm a die-hard Islanders fan. I usually listen to or watch 70 games a season, in addition to going to several games either at the Coliseum or on the road. Just for being an Islanders fan, you've gained a spot on my RU list .
Here's a short list of my favorite sites for Islanders information:
The team's official website. Not exactly objective, but it is updated very frequently, and it has a lot of good information about players and prospects. They also provide links to local stories about the Islanders.
The Post's sports page. Probably the most objective reporting on the Islanders. The Islanders stories are usually near the bottom of the page or on the Islanders link on the side of the page. The articles are usually pretty short but are definitely worth the read.

New York Islanders have fans? Damn, where have I been for the last 5 years, In my own opinion the only reason that the Islanders are 1-3-1 in there last five games is because they start Garth Snow! Get a goalie, and you will have a team! LOL just Kidding

Its actually because the Islanders offense has gone down the crapper since Mark Parrish and Alexei Yashin have been injured. That is two players off of the top two lines, and not to mentioned that both Parrish and Yashin were on nice hot streaks before they were injured. Another problem is that the Isles don't have enough left-handed shooters and that we don't have good passing down low (although the Islanders picked up Cliff Ronning a few days ago to fill both needs). The Isles PP sucks for that same reason as well. As for Garth Snow, he's just not very consistent, but when he gets on a roll, watch out. Also remember that Rick DiPietro is the Isles goaltender of the future. I don't worry about our goaltending too often.
As for Cloutier, he's non exactly a top-tier goaltender. A fire hydrant could put up those kinds of numbers if it had that defensive core in front of them.
As for the Thrash, Srbmod, have you checked the standings lately? The Thrashers are in playoff contention by a thread (8th place)--and they are behind the Islanders. Kovalchuk still carries the team on his back and if he was ever injured, the Thrash would go in a tailspin. Nurminen is not a legitimate #1 goaltender this season, and it should be up to Lehtonen in future seasons. After the hot start, they have gone in the tank. I'll give credit to Bob Hartley though, he is an excellent coach and the Thrashers should be a real playoff contender if Heatley is ever able to return to form. By the way, how are the ever-loyal Atlanta fans?

Yup, on Break-away's that Vancouver has given up in the last 12 games, your probably right, but thats not saying very much for the rest of the nhl players that can't score on that fire hydrant, maybe time to send these shooters back down to the minors! As for the Islanders PP It has to be better than Vancouver's.............5 goals on there last 56 PP! So much for all those powerful players in front of clouts! Cliff Ronning will be an excellent addition for any team, hes small and fast!

You do have a point there Jcs, Most of the fans here are downright pathetic. But I am a faithfull fan no matter what. (let me make it a point that im not origninally from Atlanta, so maybe thats got something to do with it).
But I'll still root for them even if they lose the rest of there games.

After the tragedy that happened during training camp, most people wrote the Thrashers off. If the Thrashers had anyone else but Bob Hartley as coach, they'd be sitting at the bottom of the standings. They have struggled as of late, mainly due to injuries, and the fact that Nurminen is a little tired. I doubt the Thrashers would be willing to bring Kari Lehtonen up just yet (this is his first season playing North America-style hockey), even with his AHL All-Star starting selection. Rumors have been flying about picking up Cujo from the Wings to give the team a boost in the goalie department. Dany Heatley is rumored to be on pace to return within a few weeks of the All-Star game (I still can't believe he got over 30,000 votes for the All-Star Game even though he has yet to play this year), hopefully we'll still be in the thick of the playoff race, not hanging by a thread. Attendence has been very good as of late, they were averaging 16,000+ during the latter half of December (including one sellout vs TB). The games are beginning to look less like home games for the away teams, all three games I've been to this season you actually had to look for fans of the opposing team because there are a lot more Atlanta fans now.

Thats because Vancouver, Edmonton or Calgary fans Don't Know where Atlanta Is! Even though the Flames came from Atlanta! As far as we know, Atlanta is that lost city under the sea! But seriously, I think that if you do somehow lure away Cujo from Detroit (not sure who you would trade for him) you could be right up there with the higher standing teams! And Is Dany Heatley really that close to returning to the line up? Well time for the Canucks to Kick some Panther Butt!

When Heatley took to the ice after practice on Dec. 22, it had been said that he would most likely be back playing within two months of returning to skating. Heatley might play a few games down in the minors before rejoining the team (he might play a few games for the Thrashers ECHL afflilate here in Atlanta).
Last year, Heatley was an unknown until his breakout performance @ last years' All-Star Game. This year, Ilya Kovalchuk topped all players in the voting, and if you've never seen him play, you got to watch the All-Star Game, he's the most exciting player the league has seen in years. I can't wait to see him wow the crowd during the Skills Competition. We might also have several other players make the All-Star Team as well (Marc Savard, Shawn McEachern, or Slava Kozlov could be named to the team). Imagine how the Thrashers would be doing with Kovalchuk and a healthy Heatley?

Jcs17 is a Islander Fan, but you wouldn't know it unless they are winning. See, like Jcs likes to say "this cities fans suck" etc, he is no better. He is a Yankee Fan. Very subtle. Well, he is a Yankee Fan when they are winning. He talked more shit than anyone before the World Series, and after the Yankees lost, he never said a word about it or his team. Well done "true fan". In the preseason for Hockey, he was talking up the Islanders preseason record and such. Now that they have proven they still suck, there goes Jcs talking about the Islanders. The term FAIR WEATHER FAN fits in very nicely with this guy.

KROC, I said plenty after the Yankees lost, and I doubt very many on a.net would be interested in thread after thread of what was going on with the Isles (I go to Islanders message boards to discuss them). The Islanders are one game above .500, I guess if that is a definition of sucking, then the Mets and Bills take the word suck to a totally different dimension. KROC don't hate because your rooting interests suck.
