Ok.. I need to vent, and figured you would be a good crowd to vent to..

Tonight was torturus at work, seemed like every idiot and moron stopped in.. Here's a list of the major things.. (no particular order)
(I work at a vid rental store, part time while I am in school)..

#1- I get to work, and find a write up, at me, for something someone else actually did. We are supposed to have another employee rent out our employee rentals, and change the 5-day keeps to 2-day keeps. Well, I got blamed for renting one to Jim (names changed) and not changing it. Funny thing, Jim didn't rent anything yesterdaty!! I DID!! And apparently HE forgot to change the 5 day to a 2 day.. so I got yelled at, just to have an "oops I was wrong" 10 minutes later.. Write up ripped up..

#2- The cops were out in the area in full force tonight.. They must have pulled over 5 people into out parking lot in 3 or 4 hours tonight (just our end).. One guy was pulled over as he was coming to rent movies, and after 45 min or so of him and the cop being out there, he comes in all pissed off.. The Michigan State Trooper said that he ran this guys plates and it came up that the guy didn't pay taxes on his car when he bought it new, from the dealership, FIVE YEARS AGO!!! Now, not only do we have the "pleasure" of hearing this guy rant and rave about it, and having to have somone else come GET him cause he isn't allowed to drive his car home, and he had to get a sobriety test etc etc, but I started thinking.. How the HELL Can someone buy a car, and not pay taxes etc etc?? I mean, you know how you have to have title, plates, insurance, etc, well... TAX IS PART OF THE TITLE FEES!!! You have to pay TAX ON WHAT YOU PAID FOR THAT CAR TO GET THE TITLE!!!!!

#3- (this boggles my mind..) 3 younger girls came in tonite.. wanted to rent "Walk to Remember" with Mandy Moore.. Well, their ages were 12, 13, and 17 (we have the info in the computer so they can verify who they are, as they rent on their parents account) .. I told them they had late fees, and the 12 yr old starts saying "FUC* FUC*" over and over.. I told her that it is a family store and we don't allow that language.. Especally from someone her age.. Well, she shut up, until they paid and were getting ready to leave.. then she screamed FUC* all the way out the door.. Now, our policy is if people pull that kind of crap, their account is permanently closed.. Well, I see the parents often, and they are really good people and rent a lot.. So I figure I'll give them a chance, and instead of closing the account, I called her father, and explained the situation.. a couple hours later, the girl called and apologized.

#4- Some old lady comes up to the counter, and hands me 2 movies and her member card. Well, I pull her account up, and tell her she has some late fees. She starts whining and moaning about how she paid the one, and the manager reduced it for her, etc etc etc.. Well, I did show a PARTIAL payment of that late fee, but our rules are no rentals if you have late fees. She insisted she paid the one and "How about I pay the other and rent these?". I told her again, that I am unable to do that, as I can get in trouble or fired. I had told her 3 times already to call or come up tomorrow and talk to the manager, as basic key-holders have limited authority. SHe didn't seem to get the hint. So after a lot more whining on how "it's not fair" she finally left..

#5- I am in the process of calling the late list, and I get 2 long calls, one about some lady who got a card in the mail saying we tried to call her multiple times about something that was 10 days late, but she didn't have it there, (that turned into a 20-min long ordeal), and she decided to ahve her hubby look for it when he got home. I told her, again, to call the manager tomorrow, as our powers are limited (We can't take off or skip late fees etc etc)..

#6- The SECOND call I got tonite was from some guy calling about his girlfriends fathers account, and after about 15 mintues of constant "I dunno's" from this guy, I find out he wanted to know why his girl had to pay a late fee on American Wedding, when it was returned ON TIME.. I finally am able to get the account holder on the phone,, pull up the original invoice from when it was rented, to see he rented TWO copies of the SAME MOVIE, along with a different movie. He kept going ON AND ON AND ON about how he only rented one, grabbed 2 by accident, yadda yadda ya.. I told him, again, he'd have to talk to the manager tomorrow.. Well, I talk to my manager later, and explain that situation to her, and she knew exactly who I Was talking about.. Turns out the guy DID rent two, as she helped him, and he wanted to rent ONE for HIM and ONE for his DAUGHTER.. The daughters was late.. She had me call him back, and I explained the situation once more, and he still swears he only took home one, but let it drop there..

#8- We have an adult room at the store where I work.. If someone goes in and looks young, we are required to ID said people.. Well, I go in there, and ID these two people.. The GUY pulls out his id, and he's over 18, but ther GIRL left HERS in the CAR.. Well, I told her she has to leave the room unless she produces ID. She did, but was not happy about it... On my way back to the front, I reminded her that if they were gonna rent one of those I would need her ID as well. She ended up getting it, but wasn't happy about it..

There were so many idiots trying to beat the system with late fees, some idiotic lady brought back 2 dvd's, one of which the case had been soaked in water, saying they did not work, as her equipment broke and wanted to exchange them for 2 VHS tapes.. I asked her about the water soaked case ans she got this blank look on her face.. idiot..

And what's with the people who don't know how to freaking shower or take care of themselves?? THey're the type who leave a stink behind for hours on end and you almost want to pay them to get out..

The good thing tonite: I got to watch Encino Man, and laughed my ass off the whole time at that movie  Smile

Anyway.. That's my rant for the time being.. How were YOUR nites at work??

Chris

I had two people give me the 'I work in customer service/I was a manager at XYZ restaurant...' speech last night. Let me explain something: If you really are in customer service, you know not to cuss at me because that makes my job harder. And just because you did things one way at your XYZ restaurant does not mean we do things like that at ours.

I don't care how drunk a person is, the whole "I hope I didn't piss you off so don't spit in my food" thing is just plain stupid. Why lose my job and get my store shut down. That is downright insulting.

But I did get a tip...

GO CANUCKS!!

Listen, your job is your job, but I have to ask a few things. Do you really care that a 12 year old girl was swearing enough to call her parents? I mean she shouldn't have been doing it, but it's not like it's your store or your her teacher or anything? As far as the adult room, why does the second person have to produce an ID also, they aren't renting? Does this video store also require every person in the same party renting a rated "R" or "PG-13" to be of age? Seems kinda silly to me. I'm really interested in your response to my first question though...

Vafi88- Thank you.. #8 should be #7.. I was just frazzled..
--------------------------

Well, normally I wouldn't care too much, but there were other little kids around, and seeing the mortified looks on THEIR parents faces, yeah.. Under normal circumstances, the whole FAMILY would have been banned from renting because of their kids foul mouths.. It's one thing to say "Damn" or "Shit" about a late fee, but to say "F***" numerous times, really loud, is another.. I was actually being nice..

And the adult room, it's kind of like alcohol. If someone comes up to buy booze and someone else is with them that looks like he/she can be underage, BAM.. ID please.. Also, it is against the law for anyone under 18 to be IN the adult room, and also, it is required (NOt sure if by law, but definately company policy) to show ID if we ask, becuase if said person is underage, and they get home with friend or whatever, and the parents find them watching porn, it's on MY rear end, and I am not about to have that happen. Also, I have known police to come in undercover or send someone in to make sure we are not letting them rent.. it IS against the law for a minor to be in posession of or watch a porn..

As for the PG-13 or R, in our systems, we have a screen that pops up when we access an account, and this screen displays any other names that the account holder added to the account, also what rating restriction (if any) the account holder gave for said person. (Not including porn, that is 18+ no matter what)..

In such a lawsuit happy world, this stuff is mainly meant to cover our asses.. I don't really like being a jerk about this stuff, but I'd rather not face the consequences of not doing my job..

Hope this answered your ?'s!!

I wish I could have drank, F_ck, the F_CKEN Snow up here was horrible, I was out plowing it in the country, I couldn't see Three feet off my plow harness. My Truck is a Tandem Axle Sterling with a Viking plow equipment, I almost and I am not exaggerating, killed a couple with my wing down tonight. I was driving outside of Cambridge, the snow was so blinding, that I couldn't see these two older couple walking because their car broke down. I came with in a foot of waking them with the wing blade. My nerves right now are shot. If that’s not bad enough, I was plowing in such poor visibility that when I stopped the truck pulled the parking brake and got out, I was on the shoulder on the opposite side of the road. I am way underpaid.
