In an earlier topic somebody posted we where introduced to Mike Rowe, and youngster who has a side business designing websites.

He marketed those sites through his webpage www.mikerowesoft.com.

This ticked off Microsoft and they threatened to sue him for copyright infringement, after unsuccessfully offering him $10 for the rights to the web address. After rejecting this insult, they offered the name for $10,000.

Well the update is that he and Microsoft have reached and understanding. Microsoft is supposed to cover the cost of redirecting his site to a different address, set him up with some of those MCSE certifications and give him an X-box.

Sort of stingy for them to threaten lawsuit, but in the end, what they did was pretty neat. They're going to help him get certification, and even threw in some gifts!

Kind of a different situation here. I think it's good of Microsoft and the guy to reason things out. Thats better than it turning into a legal situation, I think the guys gets away pretty good.  Smile

My point exactly 174thwff. I have read so many PRs about Bill Gates GIVING money to Apple just so he could have competition.

Give up a domain name? Some of us had to pay obscene amounts of money and actually do some studying to get our MCSE and MCSD certifications.

Ah well, never mind.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Gordon.

My brother has the domain budsbroiler.com. He's had inquiries from owner's of Bud's Broiler restaurants (a chain in New Orleans) and he told one if they could answer a list of 10 questions they could have it. They were all questions about the history of Bud's and they couldn't answer so he wouldn't let them have it. Then the next one he told them for $35,000 he'd sell it. He never heard back. The boy is obsessed with bud's broiler.
