Following on from the Very successful "Do we want the Euro in the UK" thread, Klaus came up with the magnificent suggestion of "Euro in the USA" as the previous thread was becoming a little too large for those with 56K modem connections  Big grin
So, if you think you can stand the pace, are willing to put up a good fight and have friendly bashing wars, then you are more than willing to join in with this sequel thread to the Euro in the UK thread.

Short story is, at the moment, its Andreas & Klaus Vs Banco and GKirk, in a good old fashioned Germany Vs UK war. Although, the Swiss and Norwegians have become unfortunate victims in the previous thread  Laugh out loud
So here goes, Euro in the UK goes Stateside  Laugh out loud

P.S. Only rule is, to prevent Arsenal@LHR getting any of the milestone posts  Big grin

Then the best way would probably be a swift and complete changeover. The Dollar is crumbling anyway!

If money is evil in itself, why not switch to an evil european currency while you´re at it?  Big thumbs up

(Disclaimer: If mudslinging is to occur, it is customary in the "Euro" threads to only use the smooth variety. "Chunky" mud is strongly frowned upon!)

L-188, perhaps you should build a great wall of USA to keep those Canadians out then.  Big grin Customs should prevent Canadian money entering the USA  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I have absolutely no problem with an intercontinental currency... would make life easier. But if the dollar merges with the euro, then a I think a new name is in order... perhaps the "nato".

Klaus and Gkirk, but what L-188 doesn't realise is that Canadian quarters are basically worth as much as a US quarter now anyway, so what is his gripe really about?  Big grin

Yes, but Canadians quarters are from Canada, and as you know, Canada isnt part of USA, despite KROC insisting that they are the 52nd state of the US.

Actually, Canada is a suburb of Buffalo.

That being said, it's interesting that the toll collectors at the Rainbow Bridge (separating the US and Canada at Niagara Falls) won't accept Canadian coins.

Merging the European currency with ours is likely impractical. The ability to allow currencies to float is vital for economic stability.

But I know that, if the currencies were merged, it would be called...

"Dollar."

Sccuttler: A merged currency would also have to include the Argentine, Brazillian and Peruvian currencies. Therefore it would have to be called BAPED - eg Brazil Argentina Peru Euro Dollar  Big grin

To keep with the 'spirit' of what Gkirk has mentioned, Euro in the USA would be a bad idea, for the following reasons.

1) It would have to be renamed from the Euro -- because of the inclusion of France, it will have to be called the Freedom dollar or Liberty dollar or the We-hate-the-French Dollar (the last one could also go for the current Euro also)

2) The localised US Euro would have to have a value above the European Euro, just to remind the European Euro users of how the US Euro users saved your butts in world war II.

3) It could cause a rift between certain states. SoCal, upon learning of the introduction of the Euro would demand to instead introduce the Mexican peso. Brooklyn would join the Russian rouble zone. Detroit would then start using the Saudi Arabia Riyal -- the blacks in Detroit who are unhappy with this, would then move to South Carolina, where they themselves would be introduced by white landowners as the unit of currency.

But then if it was introduced, the Europeans who were pissed at attempts by certain sections of America trying to rename the currency, and have control over it, could decree that the design of the notes would feature

€500 -- A380
€200 -- A340
€100 -- A330
€50 -- A320
€20 -- A310
€10 -- A300
€5 -- A400M

I say flood Scotland so they can't wear those hideous skirts masked as "quilts", destroy the Germans so we have a free run all the way to the finals in Euro 2004. Leave the Swiss alone, they like making cheese and watches.
