Well, my wife and I have been apart for six weeks now, while I'm working in Qatar. She's flying out for a week during the college break (no, no, she's a teacher, not a student!) She arrives on Feb 14th, but I don't think I'll need to seduce her with flowers or chocolates or a fancy meal out.

Its amazing how we all know that Valentines is this grossly Commercial "holiday" that is pushed on everyone..and we should all know better than to be goaded to spend again (so soon after X-mas) but yet we all eventually fall into the trap.
My gal says she wants no part of it.."everyday should be Valentines Day". yet at the last moment I always end up buying her flowers and candy! Oh..and the evening dinner in a nice restaurant..

For Oregon Statehood Day, I am going out to support Oregon based businesses. I will be eating at Burgerville and buying coffee at Coffee People. Okay, Coffee People is owned by Detrichs but still, they are a Portland institution. I know one of my friends is a little sad as his 8 year relationship is over, so I have a card to deliver to him. Since he is south of Portland, I will have many opportunities to wish everyone a happy Oregon Statehood Day.
