With all of the car talk, it's my turn to chime in and brag.
I own a 1991 Ford F-350 4X4 with the 7.3 Liter Diesel engine. I have the 6 passenger crew cab with duallys.
Our family runs a hardware store (been in the family for over 70 years) and we often use the truck for deliveries to our loyal customers.
I have almost 187,000 miles on it and all I've ever had to replace is brakes and tires. Everything is original (engine, trans, alt, starter, water pump, radiator). It has survived 13 Long Island winters and doesn't have ANY rust at all.
Even the original cassette deck works perfect.
I've pulled several Chevys out of ditches and towed a few Dodges and Nissans to the repair shop. We have a boat and camper we take upstate New York from time to time.
This truck is simply amazing. It's no wonder I see more Fords in commercial service than Chevy and Dodge.
Mines looks just like this one but is a brown & white two-tone.

I can vouch for the Fords. I worked for the city last summer and the brand new Dodge's would constantly break down and refuse to start. Overall they were a huge pain in the arse. The Fords on the other hand, mainly older ones (5-15 years) knew how to take the punishment! Even the little, bottom-of-the-line Ranger seemed to hack it pretty well. The city only leases the Dodge's because they're cheaper and refuses to buy them because of quality concerns. (Or at least that's what I've heard/is rumored) Great trucks anyways - at least in my experience.

It seems as though the Ford combines the best attributes of big diesel trucks. However, there are a few issues. The Cummins is regarded as being the best engine available ... it's just too bad it's in the Dodge, which means great engine, crap vehicle. But the new Powerstroke 6.0 has had very serious problems, pissing off many loyal Ford customers. We're talking engines seizing with very low mileage due to a production defect. Hopefully these problems have been cured and the 6.0 Powerstroke proves to be as worthy as its predecessor in the long haul.

If I lived in a place whare I needed a truck or had a business whare I needed a truck, I'd certainly go for the F-350. The gas version of the F-350 used to use the same 460cu" V8 that I have in my Lincoln Town Car. Ford used those all the way up to 1997.
I helped a friend move two months ago with a rented UHaul truck. It was a 1988 F-350 with the diesel engine. It had 315,000 miles on it! That's 16 years of being beat up buy novice drivers moving all kinds of stuff and it ran very well.

fords are great trucks, and they will last forever if not abused. i had a 1991 bronco that i bought when i went to AZ for school. it was simply rock solid, with some minor cosmetic problems that didn't bother me.
