Hi,

Booked to go to Singapore for some spotting/sightseeing in Aug and am just sorting out where to stay. I am aware many people on this board have been to Singapore before and am just after some info.

I am after the best Hotel which offers easy access to City/Airport?

Does Singapore have public transport to/from the airport i.e buss/train?

Can anyone else give me any advice on things I must see/do while in Singapore.

Regards

Hi Beno, stay at Le Meridien Changi, it offers a free courtesy bus to and from the Changi Airport, if you walk to Changi Beach, (5mins max from hotel) you will be standing at end of runway.

When I stop over in Singapore I use to stay near the Singapore River, at Robertson Quay, not far from the main places : Raffles Place, China Town, Clark Quay, Orchard, Little India, etc... Anyway it is very easy to move in Singapore. Most of the shops are open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Singapore is a fantastic city, multi cultural, in which I had the chance last year to stop over eight times. I just like the atmosphere, the people, almost everything I must admit. Even if you stay in a hotel in the Center of Singapore, it will take you not more than 20 minutes to reach the airport with MRT : cost 2.80 Sing.Doll. (1 refundable). All the best in Singapore, a really great place to visit!
Cheers. Kilavoud.

Don't stay in a hotel, stay in the airport itself. It is arguably by far the best airport in the world for sleeping (visit Sleepinginairports.com), and includes things like a swimming pool, FREE cinemas, free relaxation chairs, showers, etc. Everything you could possibly need is there - and so are the planes! And the spectators areas (especially in terminal 1) are very good indeed.

The Changi Meridien has closed down ... but now you have the MRT running all the way to the airport. If you got money to burn stay at the Swissotel something or other (ex Westin) ... covered access to the MRT.

Of course the transit hotel is well located!

What else to do/see in Singapore: food. period.

I was in Singapore at the end of January. The MRT system is very convenient and they have a train that goes right to the airport. Also, I stayed at the transit hotel for 6 hours after I returned from KUL which cost me about $25 USD for a little room without a bathroom. So, I'd recommend staying at an off airport hotel and taking the MRT to the airport. Unfortunately I was only in Singapore for a few days and it rained the whole time so I didn't get to see much. How long are you there for? Are you flying SQ?

There is MRT service to the city, where 99% of the hotels are. Will take maybe 30-45 minutes. Out of four public bus services offered from Changi Airport, only one goes to the city.

As for what to go, go to the usual tourist sites (Zoo, Chinatown, City area...)

For something really different, try the Night Safari ... good spot to go to if you're jet-lagged and cant sleep at night
