Stern Axed By Clearchannel - Blames Janet's Breast

At least it's only 6 markets - Rochester, N.Y., Pittsburgh, San Diego, Miami, Orlando, Fla., and Louisville, Ky. Other than Pittsburgh, San Diego and Miami, the rest are worthless anyway...

"I'm under attack. They've been after me since 1992, and they're having their way with me," Stern said referring to repeated troubles he has had with regulators. "Then Janet Jackson whipped out her boob and it's all over."

Hopefully all the other megaconglomerationmediamonopolies will have some nuts and keep the show on the air. I suppose ClearChannel will just raise their concert ticket prices to make up for the lost revenue. It's not like they, along with Ticketmaster, bully their way into running all the concerts. Hmm... use us as the promoter or we won't play your music. A modern form of payola.  Yeah sure

Jeez what's next?
Gutless wonders at Clear Channel.
Rush Limbaugh feels the same way as Howard, BTW

He says it is scary when the government will tell us what is and isn't decent.
For once, he's right!

After all, if you don't like Howard, don't listen, don't buy products advertised on his show, but don't whine to mommy government asking them to step in and "protect" people who don't want to be protected from what you think is indecent. That is the most indecent thing of all in this.

I may be ugly. I may be an American. But don't call me an ugly American.

Listen, Crapchester may suck, but I was out of my mind without Stern on the radio. I like how Crap-town has to get the while others still get the show. Bullshit.

Damn, now someone needs to go get KROC out from the closet and give him a box of tissues.  Big grin

Stern actually has a huge audience of elderly Jewish people, so hopefully he will be back on in south Florida soon with a new radio station.

Atleast we still have the E channel.

I agree with him on blaming Janet. Now everyone is trying to clean up.

Isn't he on in West Palm Beach?

csavel,

Be careful what you post. I expressed the same sentiments as yours in another thread and they got deleted.

Clear Channel will probably force The MJ Morning Show on the folks in those markets. Actually, I've been po'd at Clear Channel for several weeks now ever since they change the format of my favorite radio station. Changed it from an 80's Music station (Which they screwed up from the start anyway, as not everybody wants to hear Madonna and Prince every hour. Plus they were playing "80s songs" that came out in the early-to-mid 1990s))to FM-Talk (AKA Hot Talk). I've practically quit listening to the other Clear Channel stations in Atlanta as a result. Corporate Radio is ruining the airwaves.

The clearchannel station that was aired from Ft L serviced all of south Florida. There is no other station he is broadcast on.

He used to be aired in WPB from a station that changed to country music. Once that happened the listeners wanted Stern taken off because they wanted more country (country fans and Stern don't really mix). So us West Palm Beachers didn't make a hassle out of it because we could just as easy listen to the Ft L station.

Well thought out response and as always Airplay a solid opinion stated by you. If your assement was correct though, one would think you listen to Stern 24-7.

And KROC whallops one out of the park.

Anyway, this is hypocritical. I don't listen or watch Stern's show, but to let it be aired for 12 years and then decide to not let it be aired. Over such a silly incident like Janet's exposure. Typical kneejerk reaction from politicians/CEOs.

WOW there are A LOT of dumb people. I'm glad to be dumb, especially to be labeled dumb by Airplay!!! Best news of the day.

I guess Ft. Myers is the only Fla market left. If in the area, it's on 96.1

I feel sorry for any Stern listener that will now have to listen to the MJ morning show....YUCK!  Sad

As a loyal Howard Stern fan for going on TWENTY-TWO YEARS come Sept., I take great offense of Airplay's remark. He and so many others just don't get it. He's not just a foulmouth loudmouth, his talent is sheer genius and his success speaks for itself. His fans are largely those coveted by advertisers, the prized 18-54 year old male demographic which includes some of the biggest mover and shakers in business. It's indeed ironic to have the likes of Rush Limbaugh come to his defense, given the two have never said a good word about the other but what is happening to free speech these days is truly rotten. Frankly, I've a feeling the tone set by the current administration may well be a factor in all this; surely the bible quoting fanatics seem to be feeling their oats these days. If this keeps up, we might well see something akin to the worst days of McCarthyism, witchhunts perpetuated on individuals just for using risque language or taking controversial stands. This sort of thing isn't what America's supposed to be about!  Pissed

Well its not uncommon for people who don't even listen to Stern to comment on him because they know everything.

Not much of his show is sex anyway. The best and funniest part of the show is usually when he does the news.

And another thing, how dare Clearchannel take off Howard for being explicit, what about all their rap stations? Some jams go into far more sexual detail than Howard does on a normal basis.

I think Howie may be right.

He may be a very public sacrificial lamb Clear Channel is holding up to show to the FCC that they can control their own house.
